September 1, 2020—Marist College has once again been selected for inclusion in The Princeton Review’s guide, The Best 386 Colleges. Marist was ranked #19 in the Study Abroad category and #34 in the Top 50 Game Design list. The College has also been included in the Princeton Review’s highly selective guide, Colleges That Create Futures.

“We appreciate this recognition and affirmation of the excellent education Marist provides,” said Sean Kaylor, Vice President for Enrollment, Marketing and Communication.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Thom Wermuth noted that although the pandemic has suspended study abroad programs temporarily, they remain a key component of a Marist education. “The College endeavors to help its students become global citizens and study abroad opportunities are integral to that goal. We’ve consistently been ranked as a top school nationally for long-term study abroad in the U.S. State Department’s Open Doors Report. Our campus in Florence, Italy and our Freshman Dublin Experience offer additional opportunities for our students to expand their horizons internationally.”

Frequently recognized for excellence, Games and Emerging Media is an interdisciplinary program at Marist encompassing courses from the School of Communication and the Arts and the School of Computer Science and Mathematics. The program provides all majors with a foundation in programming, art, game design, UI/UX, game writing/storytelling, and the business of games. In addition, students have the opportunity to take courses in the ethics of games, online culture, storytelling across media, artificial intelligence, and more. “In just five years this innovative program has built a standout reputation as a leader in this exciting field of study,” said Kaylor.

According to The Princeton Review, only about 13% of America’s 3,000+ four-year colleges are profiled in the book. The company chooses the colleges for the book based on data it collects annually from administrators at hundreds of colleges about their institutions’ academic offerings. The Princeton Review also considers data it gathers from its surveys of college students who rate and report on various aspects of their campus and community experiences for this project. This year’s rankings are based on surveys of 143,000 students at the 386 colleges profiled in the book.

Published annually since 1992, the book has detailed profiles of the colleges and rating scores in eight categories, as well as ranking lists of top schools in more than 60 categories.
