Emily Saland
Vice President, Chief Strategy and Planning Officer
Bio
Emily directs, integrates, and coordinates all annual and multi-year institutional planning activities in service of Marist's mission, vision, and successful execution of the strategic plan. She also oversees the University's institutional data analytics and research functions, which provide internal and external stakeholders with insights necessary to advance, resource, measure, and report on strategic or cross-divisional initiatives. For the eight years prior to her appointment as Chief Strategy and Planning Officer (2017-2025) Emily served as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Board of Trustees, coordinating the work of the President's Office and senior leadership teams and overseeing all matters related to institutional governance. In 2022 her portfolio expanded to include responsibility for strategic initiatives. In that capacity, she co-chaired the steering committee that led the year-long planning process that produced Marist 100, the strategic plan that will carry the institution through and beyond its centennial in 2029. Emily's EdD dissertation focused on factors related to timely degree completion, and she is deeply interested in driving institutional efforts to support student success and enhance graduation outcomes.
An active member of the Hudson Valley community, she currently serves as a Commissioner of the Taconic Region of New York State’s Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. She has also previously served as chair of the Board of Directors of the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill, and as board management committee chair for the Board of Directors of the Walkway Over the Hudson.
