Summer Pre-College: Cybersecurity
Summer Pre-College: Cybersecurity
Virtual Session: July 10 - 28, 2023
Have you ever wondered how computer hackers go about accessing your bank records and medical files, stealing your identity, and holding your data for ransom? Or what you can do to protect yourself and others from cyber attacks which seem to grow more frequent and more complex all the time? At the Marist cybersecurity program, you’ll take the first steps towards becoming an ethical hacker, by learning some of the tools and techniques used in this field. You don’t need to have any programming experience; we’ll teach you everything you need to create secure code and test for vulnerabilities in information technology systems. Using the same tools as security professionals, you’ll learn about viruses, worms, and other types of malware, passwords, encryption, phishing, cyber-warfare, and wireless network security. You’ll have a chance to safely practice your skills on a fake “online banking” system and other environments in our cloud computing lab, and work with real-world data in our state-of-the-art Security Operations Center. We’ll illustrate best practices with recent examples of real-life cyber attacks, and discuss how they should have been prevented.
