Student Government Association
Itati Serrano
VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
As Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Itati Serrano leads the Student Government Association’s efforts to cultivate a campus where every student feels a genuine sense of belonging, dignity, and representation. Her leadership centers on understanding the campus climate, amplifying underrepresented voices, and ensuring that student experiences meaningfully guide SGA decisions and college-wide conversations. She serves as a member of the President’s Diversity Council, bringing forward student perspectives on campus climate and community needs, and she meets regularly with the Office of Community & Belonging to share student concerns, communicate insights, and ensure that what students express at tabling events meaningfully informs administrative decision-making. Itati also oversees the more than 15-member DEI Board and the Affinity Group Council, working closely with cultural and identity-based organizations to foster collaboration, advocacy, and student leadership. A central part of her role involves evaluating SGA and campus wide initiatives through an equity lens and offering guidance to strengthen accessibility, representation, and cultural responsiveness across the college. Through this work, she helps unify student voices and supports initiatives that build trust, connection, and shared purpose among student groups. Her work this year is rooted in student-centered initiatives such as the Belonging Spaces for dialogue space for verious student communities on campus; heritage month celebrations; the continuation of the Cultural Dinner Dance; 5:5, a new initiative designed to bridge the gap between students and faculty through storytelling; and the expansion of the Affinity Group Council’s role in community building. Across these initiatives, Itati remains committed to cultivating a campus culture grounded in our shared humanity, one that emphasizes connection, empathy, and the conviction that every student deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported.
Itati's Office Hours:
