Job Location and Development Information (Handshake)
What Is Job Location And Development?
Job Location And Development (JLD) is designed to locate and develop off-campus, part-time jobs for students during the academic year as well as full-time positions during the summer. Any off-campus positions are advertised on Handshake.
Who Can Participate?
The services of this program are available to both full and part-time students, including those registered in Graduate and Adult Enrollment and involved in a credit bearing program. Students do not have to demonstrate financial need nor meet special academic requirements to participate. This program, however, may not be used for placement after graduation.
How Do I Apply?
Current students are able to apply to any open positions on Handshake. Handshake accounts are automatically generated for current students, and are accessible through the student’s single sign-on via My.Marist authorization.
How Do I Get A Job?
It is the student’s responsibility to initiate contact with the employers listed on Handshake. Should a student have challenges in obtaining an off-campus position, they are encouraged to contact the Assistant Director of Student Employment, Angelica Pavelock, at 845-575-3230 or via email at angelica.pavelock@marist.edu.
What Are My Responsibilities as a Student Employee?
First, students should be sure that they understand the terms and conditions of their employment – for example, salary, hours, and duties. A student should not accept a job if they do not like or feel comfortable in the position, as they will be expected to honor their commitment to an employer. Second, students should be sure to arrive on time for work. If there is some reason for tardiness or absence, students should notify the employer at least one day in advance, or as soon as is possible. Last, if a student is experiencing any difficulties on the job, they should be discussed with the employer. Failure to utilize JLD services via Handshake in a responsible manner will render a student ineligible for JLD during the remainder of that academic year.
