HeLa cells are the most widely used human cell lines in existence. Mrs. Lacks’s cells have been bought and sold by the billions, yet she has been virtually unknown.

The Marist College Center for Sports Communication has named Jon Frankel, a correspondent for HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, the inaugural "Distinguished Pro in Sports Communication" adjunct professor.

Earlier this year, Matt Plumeri finished up his service in the Marine Corps and enrolled at Marist to study psychology and criminal justice, but the partner with whom he worked for years searching out dangerous explosives, including a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan, remains with the Marines at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
