Alpha Sigma Lambda recognizes and fosters scholarship and leadership among adult/non-traditional undergraduate students and is a nationally recognized honor society for adult learners.  It represents the top non-traditional undergraduate students for more than 300 institutions across the United States.

Marist established the Gamma Eta chapter in 1982 and inducts honorees every Spring semester.

Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded in 1945 by Dr. Rollin Posey who was Dean of the University College at Northwestern University and officially rattified in 1947 as an honor society.  Its purpose, he wrote, was "to bind together into one Society the excellent students within the University College in order to provide a stimulus to and recognition for their worthy efforts to make best use of their college years." -  Alpha Sigma Lambda.org
