Can teacher candidates spend a semester abroad?

Absolutely! Learning to appreciate and work within another culture is so important for future teachers. Because teacher certification programs are very tight, you will need to plan carefully to schedule your semester abroad. Elementary/special education candidates should plan to study abroad in the sophomore year. Your advisor can explain the reasons and help you create a good four-year plan.

Which teacher certification tests do I need, and when should I take them?

Even if you never plan to teach in New York, you should take all of the New York State certification tests; that is the best way to ensure that you can earn certification in any other state.

What should I do if I do not get a C+ in a required course?

First, consult with the teacher who assigned the grade to see if there is anything you can do to demonstrate to the teacher that you have the knowledge and skills needed to earn a qualifying grade. If there is not, you should plan to re-take the course. However, if you have unusual extenuating circumstances, you might consider appealing for a waiver of the C+ requirement. The process is described here.
