Spring New Student Checklist
Welcome to Marist University - now, let's get you Red Fox ready!
The Spring New Student Checklist will help you stay organized and guide you through the steps to become an official member of the Red Fox family. Be sure to review the deposit deadlines to secure your spot, and continue using the checklist to stay on track for a smooth, successful semester. We can't wait to welcome you to campus soon!
Congratulations on your acceptance. Take these next steps:
Due Now
Please check your acceptance letter to see when your enrollment deposit is due.
Your enrollment deposit secures your spot at Marist and is the first step you take to becoming an official Red Fox. Once you deposit, you can submit your student ID card photo and your housing preference (if you are a resident student), and begin our enrollment checklist!
You can access your Marist University email after you receive an activation notice sent to your personal email. Make sure to check your Marist email regularly, as all future communications will be sent there. Your Marist account also provides access to the myMarist student portal and other important resources.
There's no better way to see if Marist is the place for you. Attend our Admitted Student event on January 8, where you'll meet faculty, staff, and students and experience our facilities and campus life firsthand. Can't make it to the Admitted Student event? That's okay! Marist is open 7 days a week for you to learn everything you'd want to know about life as a Red Fox.
See what it's like to be a part of the Red Fox Family! Check out Marist’s YouTube video library to learn more about what makes Marist special.
We know that committing to Marist is a big decision. Whatever it is you hope to learn more about, we're here to help.
Join the conversation and talk with your classmates! Marist's ZeeMee groups are active, engaging, and filled with students just like you.
Enrolled Student Checklist
After you’ve secured your spot, use this checklist to stay on track and ensure you’re prepared for a smooth and successful semester at Marist!
Note: For students who deposit after January 1:
Please disregard the due dates and complete all steps below as soon as possible. You are advised to work closely with the Undergraduate Admission Office to ensure your checklist is completed by the start of classes.
Due ASAP
Arrange to have your official transcripts sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. If you've earned college-level credits, have a transcript sent from the college/university to Undergraduate Admission via email at admission@marist.edu. For AP or IB credit, request that your official scores be sent to Marist's Office of the Registrar from the testing agency. Note: Spring semester schedules are generally available in early January, so do not delay in providing your transcripts and scores.
Due December
As a full-time undergraduate student, you must have health insurance. If you have comparable or better health insurance coverage, you can opt-out by completing an online waiver and providing proof of insurance. Note: Your tuition bill will be available December 11. If you do not waive insurance, you will be charged on your bill. Learn more.
Please submit all mandatory health forms and immunization records as soon as possible. Health forms are required to start classes and move into campus housing. Students must use Marist’s Health Services Patient Portal via Medicat to submit health information. Make sure to check for Secure Messages in your Patient Portal, where Health Services staff communicate important updates. We cannot accept emailed submissions.
Fill out your Housing Application, including:
- Emergency Contact Information
- Lifestyle Preferences and Roommate Matching Survey
- Residence Halls Rankings
- First Year Special Interest Housing Communities (if applicable)
Browse the Office of Residential Life’s frequently asked housing questions, including how roommates are selected, how to apply for a medical housing accommodation, and where to rent refrigerators and microwaves. The Office will send you an email notification in early January once your housing assignment is available on the StarRez Housing Portal.
Due January
The Office of Student Financial Services will provide an itemized statement of charges for the semester on December 11. You can view and pay your bill using myMarist portal’s Student Financial Services tab. You must be signed into the portal. Please review the University’s health insurance fees prior to December 11.
Your Marist Student ID Card is your University identification card, residence hall access, dining meal plan and Thrifty Cash, library card, and Marist Money. You will receive your Marist Student ID Card during Move In when you pick up your housing keys or during Orientation check-in (for Commuters). You’ll need to submit a headshot photo.
The Office of the Registrar will send you instructions on how to view your courses in early January once your schedule is complete. Note: Your schedule may be viewable before it is finalized. You will have the opportunity to change your schedule during the following Add/Drop Period dates. For new students, Add/Drop begins a day early on January 20 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
You will be paired with an academic advisor based on your chosen major and will receive an email in early January with your advisor's information. Your advisor is an important resource to help you with courses as well as support you in achieving your academic goals. Your advisor can assist you in understanding the Core Curriculum and major requirements and the DegreeWorks program, which gives you 24/7 access to your degree progress. When you start the semester, be sure to reach out and begin building a relationship with your advisor!
Each year, new students are required to read a text called the Common Read that promotes interdisciplinary dialogues engaging with topics in diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice. Learn more. The Common Read is Ab(solutely) Normal: Short Stories That Smash Mental Health Stereotypes (2023). First Year Seminar is a requirement for students who transfer with less than 24 credits. (If you have more than 24 credits, please disregard.)
