Cisco Duo’s multi‑factor authentication (MFA) strengthens Marist University’s security by requiring users to verify their identity with more than just a password. MFA is a security process requiring users to provide two or more distinct forms of evidence to prove their identity before accessing an account or application This additional verification step ensures that only legitimate users gain access to sensitive systems, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized account use.

When you are connecting to a Marist service off‑campus, you will still enter your Marist username and password, but you will also be prompted to complete a second authentication step. Once approved, access continues normally, while on‑campus logins remain unchanged.

To help users stay secure and avoid disruptions, Duo offers self‑service options, real‑time alerts, and easy device enrollment through the Duo Mobile app.  Additional features such as Touch ID support on Mac devices and troubleshooting tools for push notifications ensure that users can maintain secure access with minimal effort.
