AACSB Extends Accreditation for Marist College’s School of Management Business Degree Programs

POUGHKEEPSIE (May 4, 2017) – Marist College’s School of Management recently had its accreditation extended by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the oldest and most prestigious global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

“Marist’s continued accreditation by AACSB is the result of the great work being done by the faculty and staff of the School of Management under the leadership of Dean Lawrence Singleton, as well as the demonstrable success of our business students,” said President David Yellen. “I congratulate them all on this important achievement.”

AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than 5 percent of the world's business schools. Today, there are 786 business schools in 53 countries and territories that have earned AACSB Accreditation.

“During the extensive peer-review process leading up to this good news, Marist students, faculty, and staff demonstrated our institution’s alignment with AACSB’s global accreditation standards,” said Thom Wermuth, Vice President for Academic Affairs, “and they clearly showed how we encourage engagement, innovation, and impact across our college community.”

Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, engagement with an AACSB-assigned mentor, and peer review. During this multi-year continuous improvement review process, schools focus on developing and implementing a plan to align with AACSB’s accreditation standards. These standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty, and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.

“I want to thank everyone at Marist who helped support this demanding process,” said Dean Singleton, “but especially the School of Management faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends, who work to continuously improve the quality of our school. They should be proud of this important accomplishment as it is important evidence that we are delivering on our collective mission to educate ‘people of integrity with the managerial expertise, vision, pragmatism and ethical sensibility to succeed professionally and personally.’”

In addition to its AACSB Accreditation, the School of Management’s other distinctions include being named a “Best Undergrad B-School” by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, a Princeton Review “Best Business School” and a “Best Bachelor’s Program” by Accounting.com.
