Marist Fashion Program Ranked Among Top 50 Globally by Business of Fashion

The premiere industry publication Business of Fashion has ranked Marist’s Fashion Program in its annual Global Fashion School Ranking of top college fashion programs in the world. Marist was ranked #38 globally and #11 in the United States.

Business of Fashion’s criteria in assessing schools include global influence, learning experience, and long-term value (including students’ career readiness and alumni employment satisfaction). Based in London, Business of Fashion has a world-wide following as a daily news resource in the fashion industry.

Marist’s program boasts impressive statistics: in the last decade, the program has grown from 200 total students to about 500; nearly 90% of fashion majors study abroad at least once during their four years; and, 88% of fashion majors are employed in the industry within six months of graduation. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Marist in Manhattan, an internship program that uses the College’s proximity to New York City—a fashion industry hub—to full advantage.

“It’s an honor to be named one of the top fashion colleges in the world,” says Fashion Program director Radley Cramer. “This recognition acknowledges how far our program has come. It’s continually growing and evolving and we have numerous enhancements in the works that will only create better learning experiences for Marist students,” Cramer notes. In 2018, the Marist program will move to a new 50,000 square foot facility dedicated to art and fashion with numerous cutting edge features: a high-tech makers’ space; digital, textile, and product development labs; gallery spaces for fine art and fashion exhibitions; and a fashion archive facility.

Cramer notes that while the Business of Fashion ranking is focused strictly on design education, Marist’s program also includes merchandising. “For many students, merchandising becomes their area of focus because of the broad range of opportunities it affords. In that sense, our program offers a full set options for fashion education.”

Another growing facet of the Fashion Program is an increasing emphasis on study abroad. Marist has a campus in Florence, Italy, but fashion majors are also taking advantage of programs in Hong Kong, London, and Paris. More and more, fashion majors are spending multiple semesters or partial semesters abroad. “The goal is for our students to graduate with a very full-bodied view of the fashion world; working in a global industry requires a global perspective on design, merchandising and the supply chain.”
