Marist Welcomes the Class of 2020
Incoming class is College's most diverse ever
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (August 29, 2016) – Marist College welcomed 1,246 members of the Class of 2020 with a series of events over the weekend. Forty-two members of the class are starting their college careers in Italy as part of the Freshmen Florence Experience. President David Yellen, who took office on July 1st, provided the traditional welcome at the all-class gathering in the McCann Center's Grey Gym on Saturday afternoon, addressing his first class as leader of the College and snapping his first Class of 2020 selfie.

With more than 22 percent of the class identifying as students from traditionally underrepresented groups, it is the most diverse class in the history of the College. In addition, the College welcomed 168 transfer students and 12 new students in the bachelor program at the Florence campus.
Hundreds of students help welcome members of the Class of 2020 and their families,
including doing the heavy lifting required to move new students into their dorm rooms.
Marist continues to become more diverse geographically, too. Nearly 57 percent of the incoming class comes from outside of New York State, representing 30 states – from Florida to Hawaii and Texas to Minnesota – and 30 countries – including Brazil, France, Rwanda, Nepal, and Uzbekistan.
