Opening Weekend Information, August 17, 2020

August 17, 2020 — We are looking forward to your arrival on campus for the Fall semester between Wednesday, August 19 and Sunday, August 23, 2020.

The health and safety of our students and staff remains a top priority. With that in mind, it is extremely important that you adhere to your assigned move-in date and time. Family members may only stay in the residence hall for a maximum of two hours. Your slot is a fixed window of time to enter and exit your residence hall. Additionally, in order to limit the number of people in the residence halls during this busy time, each student is permitted to bring a maximum of two additional guests with them.

To ensure the health and safety of all of our guests, we are following the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and New York State (NYS) guidelines and we ask that you practice social distancing and wear a face covering during your visit. In addition, you and your guests (maximum of two) will need to fill out the mandatory health form prior to your arrival on campus.

This week, we sent you a letter which will include a tag to hang on the rear view-mirror of your car that corresponds with your assigned residence hall. Please have this displayed when you arrive to campus for your move-in time-slot so our staff and volunteers will be able to safely direct you to the appropriate parking lot. If you do not receive your tag prior to coming to Marist, do not worry! We will be able to direct you to your assigned parking lot.

We encourage you to only bring items which will be needed between now and Thanksgiving. Snow and bitter cold is exceptionally rare in our area before December therefore winter clothing is not needed. Please note that the elevators will not be available for public use during your move-in time slot.

If you anticipate that you may require assistance for heavy or large items, we ask that prior to your arrival, you prominently display your name, residence hall, and room number on ALL items to ensure a smooth delivery. We will have limited assistance available to help with unloading your belongings and moving them to your room for you. The College will make every effort to ensure that your belongings arrive in your room. However, the College will not accept liability for any lost or damaged personal belongings. Use your discretion when giving any items of high or personal value to our staff and students. Please see an enclosed list of items that are not permitted in the residence halls.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission, in conjunction with the Marist College Sustainability Advisory Committee, created an online New Student Welcome Packet in an effort to reduce paper consumption. This packet can be found at my.marist.edu/welcome-packet.

If you require special assistance or have concerns about moving into your residence hall, please contact me by Tuesday, August 18 at 5 pm emailing Milena.Carrese@marist.edu to further discuss.

We hope you are as excited as we are about the start of the school year, and we look forward to seeing you on campus soon!

Best,
