The Last 100 Days recounts and analyzes the end of Roosevelt’s presidency and his vision for the postwar world. Woolner’s

exploration shows that the last 100 days might well surpass Roosevelt’s historic first 100 days in drama and consequence. Even in declining health, Woolner argues, FDR displayed remarkable political talent and foresight as he worked shaping the peace to come.

As a longtime history professor at Marist and a Senior Fellow and resident historian at the Roosevelt Institute, Woolner was perfectly poised to write this book. “The end of FDR’s presidency has always been of interest to me,” said Woolner. “The more I worked on this book, the more I came to admire FDR’s determination to carry on, despite his desire to retire to his beloved home on the Hudson River, so that he could see the war through to its conclusion and bring the United Nations into being.”

The Last 100 Days has been widely praised since its publication last fall. Documentarian Ken Burns said of the book, "Woolner deftly brings those last moments in power beautifully alive and leaves us with a lasting sense of the man as well as his accomplishments." The Washington Post's review called The Last 100 Days “a remarkably well-researched book on the president that Americans consistently rank among the greatest.”

This event is sponsored by Marist’s School of Liberal Arts and the Raymond A. Rich Leadership Institute.
