Dr. Jacqueline Reich Appeared on CUNY TV's City Cinemateque
February 2, 2022 — On Saturday, January 22, Dr. Jacqueline Reich, Dean of The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College, appeared on CUNY TV’s City Cinemateque to discuss The Conformist, the 1970 Oscar®-nominated Italian film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. This was Dr. Reich’s second appearance on the show, in which each film screening is followed by discussions with scholars, film professionals, and critics.
“It was such an honor to be asked back to do the show to talk about one of my favorite films. Not only is it a beautiful film – highlighted by its recent restoration – but it is also a timely one, with its examination of how totalitarian regimes exercise their power in subtle ways.”
Dean Reich joined Marist College in July 2021 after serving as Chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University. She received her B.A. from Dartmouth College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Reich has written multiple books on Italian cinema, including the award-winning The Maciste Films of Italian Silent Cinema. She also sits on the doctoral faculty at the University of Florence’s History of Art and Performance Ph.D. program.
