Statement on Relationship Violence and Supporting Resources

Dear Marist community,

Recently there have been petitions circulated and activity on social media regarding an alleged incident of assault involving two Marist students, which took place out of state. While we are governed by laws limiting public disclosures of many details regarding these incidents, we can announce that as of this afternoon, the student accused of the assault is no longer a student at Marist College.

Marist actively fosters a safe living and learning environment for all. Marist has always taken a firm stance on relationship violence and will not tolerate it on our campus or among members of our community. The College is fully committed to preventing, responding to, and rectifying any incidents of gender-based or sexual misconduct. We understand that reporting these types of situations can be difficult or intimidating for many, but the College is here to support you.

Marist has substantial reporting procedures in place through Title IX, and these federally mandated procedures govern our investigations of alleged misconduct. We strongly encourage reporting such incidents so that they can be handled formally and appropriately. Reports can be made online: https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?MaristCollege&layout_id=40

We understand that the reports of this incident may trigger specific emotions for those who have experienced abuse. The College offers resources and support, including the Marist Office of Counseling Services, to help in such situations. Confidential resources include:

If you have any questions about the reporting process, visit the Title IX website at https://www.marist.edu/title-ix or contact Interim Title IX Coordinator Christina Daniele at 845-575-3349 or titleix@marist.edu.
