February 17, 2026 — While eating outdoors is hard to envision as we endure a long, cold winter, Marist is revealing a first look at a new outdoor eating experience coming to Steel Plant later this year.

A new patio featuring rotating food trucks, fire pits, dining tables and Adirondack chairs, and strung with outdoor lights will be built alongside the Steel Plant facing the pedestrian underpass and Allied Health building. The University is hoping to complete construction by late spring or early summer, depending upon weather and other conditions impacting construction.

While the full menu is still in development, students can count on pizza and other Italian favorites, with plans for rotating offerings that may include grilled favorites, sandwiches, and more—keeping things fresh throughout the season.

“We’re always looking for new ways to enhance the on‑campus experience for our students, faculty, and staff," said Dr. Geoffrey Brackett, Executive Vice President at Marist University. “This outdoor dining area expands the outdoor dining and gathering spaces that have become so popular with students and will give all members of the Marist community a new place to relax, gather, and enjoy our beautiful campus. We’re excited to add a spot that showcases the setting that makes Marist so special.”

The patio will offer a relaxed, open‑air spot for students, faculty and staff to grab a bite, gather with friends, and enjoy campus life. It will operate during traditional Steel Plant Cafe hours, weather permitting, offering an easy and flexible dining option for those stopping by between classes or settling in for a longer break.

Students will be able to pay using Den Dollars, Grubhub, Marist Money, and credit or debit cards, making it easy to stop by whenever hunger hits.
