September 23, 2025 — The new track and turf field at Gartland Commons is officially open, and it’s already buzzing with energy. Whether you're an athlete or someone who loves being outdoors, this new space is yours to enjoy. From sunrise runs to Division I athletics, club games, and intramural matchups, the facility has quickly become a hub of campus life.

Lindsey Mascia ’26 has made running on the new track a part of her morning routine.

"I love running before my early morning classes, and since I live in north end it’s so nice to have the track right there," she said. "It’s super pretty during the morning, and I get to be outside before I start my busy day."

Brendan Madden ’26, a club sport athlete, loves the new facility as well.

“The new turf and track have been a game changer,” he said. “We can train more effectively and host more home games with full-field practices. Leading up to the season, I was out here almost every night—getting in my fitness, catching the sunsets. It quickly became one of my favorite spots on campus.”

The complex benefits many of Marist’s 23 Division I athletics teams—including men’s and women’s track and field, cross country, lacrosse, and soccer. It also serves as a community-wide resource for students, faculty, and staff, as well as club sports and a wide range of intramural teams.

For Marist’s DI track and field and cross country programs, the new facility represents a long-awaited home.

“The track at Gartland Commons is a dream come true for our track and cross country program,” said Pete Colaizzo, Director of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field. “Now, we have an on-campus home and a place where student-athletes in all our event groups can share in our daily pursuit to be better. In addition, this will be a boost for our recruiting efforts, as Future Foxes can see first-hand what we have to offer them in the coming years.”

Fundraising for the track and turf facility began in 2023 and continues to gain momentum. The campaign began with a lead matching challenge from Marist Trustee Tim Tenney, encouraging others to contribute. Generous gifts from alumni, friends, and supporters — including bricks and named spaces — have followed, demonstrating strong community support for this project.

Alumni, families, and friends of track and cross country are invited to join Track & Field Alumni Day and the Victory Lap celebration on Saturday, Sept. 27, to celebrate the opening of the new facility.

“We're really excited to welcome back alumni, family, and friends of our Marist Cross Country/Track Family to witness first-hand the new track and take a few laps on it. It will truly be a celebration for our loyal alumni base of Forever Foxes, as well as for family and friends of our current and past teams,” Colaizzo said.

The new field stands as a symbol of Marist’s dedication to excellence in athletics, wellness, and community spirit.

“What I like about the track is that it’s open to everyone,” said Megan Doshi '26. “Whether you’re an athlete, a casual jogger, or just walking with friends, it gives you a place to move, reset, and enjoy the campus.”
