Diversity and Inclusion

Announcement of "Check Your Blind Spots" Tour from David Yellen, April 19, 2018

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

As you know, diversity and inclusion have been and will continue to be an integral component of our mission. By cultivating a campus community that encompasses a wide range of cultural backgrounds, experiences, thoughts and perspectives, Marist can work toward fostering a campus that reflects and embraces the diversity of our society and promotes curiosity and reflection.

As members of the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, Marist joined the largest CEO-driven initiative to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace in the U.S. By signing on to the commitment, 350+ CEOs and Presidents have pledged to rally the business and non-profit communities to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace by working collectively across organizations and sectors. Marist is proud to be one of the college and university signatories among this distinguished list of organizations.

With that, I am pleased to share with you an initiative that we are excited to bring to campus next week.  On Tuesday, April 24, the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion ''Check Your Blind Spots'' Tour will come to campus to help raise awareness of unconscious biases. We hope it empowers our students to take part in conversations about diversity and inclusion, both with their communities and their future employers.  This will all take place at the Murray Student Center Quad, next to Marian Hall from 12 – 4 p.m.

Be sure to stop by – you might gain insights into your own unconscious biases and learn about companies and potential future employers that are taking the lead on promoting diversity as part of this pledge.

I look forward to seeing you all there on Tuesday.

David Yellen
