January 16, 2020—In the most recent U.S. Department of State-sponsored Open Doors report, Marist College was ranked #3 among Master’s level colleges and universities for semester study abroad. The College was ranked #4 for long-term study abroad.

With a branch campus in Florence, Italy, and two special year-long programs for first-year students (one in Ireland, the Freshman Dublin Experience, and the Freshman Florence Experience in Italy), Marist emphasizes study abroad as a key experience for undergraduates. The College offers more than 50 semester and academic year abroad programs on six continents that support a wide array of educational objectives. Currently, over half of all Marist students study abroad during their time at the College.

“Exposure to another culture, language, and way of living day-to-day is a pivotal experience,” said John Peters, Dean of International Programs. “The Open Doors ranking is especially meaningful to Marist as an institution because it affirms our work in helping students to develop global perspectives and build intercultural competencies in an increasingly connected world.”

Organized and distributed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), Open Doors is a comprehensive resource that examines data on U.S. students studying abroad for credit at their home institutions. The report is released annually.
