Students enrolled in cohort programs or courses based on special (non-15 week) calendars, should contact their advisor and/or program director for more information about registration.

Graduate Student Registration

Graduate students should see their Graduate Program Director for graduate registration procedures.

Beginning Monday, March 21st, students will be able to view Summer and Fall 2022 course offerings at my.marist.edu.  Advising for Summer and Fall 2022 begins on Monday, March 21st.  All students must make an appointment with their advisor to discuss course choices and academic planning.  At the completion of your session, please verify that your advisor has removed your registration hold.  When on-line registration opens for your class, you will be able to register since your registration hold will have been removed, enabling you to select your Summer/Fall courses on-line. Students with 75+ earned credit hours should begin making appointments with their advisors, as they will be the first group to register beginning Tuesday, April 12th.   (See complete Registration Schedule below).

Change of Major Forms are due, Friday, April 1st.

Summer 2022 Registration 

Registration for Summer 2022 will take place at my.marist.edu daily starting Tuesday, April 12th from 10:30am-11:59 pm EST through Friday, May 13th at 5 pm. Information about  Summer Sessions: https://www.marist.edu/professional-programs/programs/summer-session

Fall 2022 Registration

Registration for Fall 2022 will take place at my.marist.edu from Tuesday, April 12th to Friday, April 22nd. 

The Registration Schedule below is based on total earned hours (do not include your Spring 2022 classes as they are still in progress).  

 

  • Students with 75 + earned credit hours will register Tuesday, April 12th. Registration will be open until 11:59pm.
7:00am 88+ Credits
7:15am 80-87 Credits
7:30am 75-79 Credits

 

  • Students with 45-74 earned credit hours will register Thursday, April 14thRegistration will be open until 11:59pm.
7:00am 62-74 Credits
7:15am 51-61 Credits
7:30am 45-50 Credits

 

  • Students with 0-44 earned credit hours will register Wednesday, April 20thRegistration will be open until 11:59pm.
6:45am 29-44 Credits
7:00am 17-28 Credits
7:15am 15-16 Credits
7:30am 0-14 Credits

 

Registration will also be open for all undergraduate students on Thursday, April 21st from 7:30am to 11:59pm and Friday, April 22nd from 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Once students are eligible to register, based on the date schedule above and the “opening time” assigned to them, they may continue to register during the remaining registration periods as well.  The registration process includes course prerequisite checking, course priority for students by number of total credit hours earned (at the end of Winter 2022) and priority for courses in a student’s major and minor, if applicable). 

Instructions & Tips  

Keep the following points in mind as you prepare to register for courses:

 

  • You can only register for one section of the same course in a single semester. The computer will reject a second section of the same class.
  • Courses taught entirely on ground, in the campus classrooms, have section numbers 100-299.
  • Section numbers from 180 to 190 are offered at locations abroad.
  • Section numbers in the 700's are taught online, those in the 740 range are reserved for adult students. 
  • If you are taking a Physical Education course, be certain to leave plenty of time in your schedule for cooling down, showering and/or getting across campus to your next class from the McCann Center.  
  • Try to spread class-meeting days throughout the week to avoid fatigue and an overload of preparations for any given class day.
  • The normal full-time student carries from 12 to 16 credits per semester. Your full-time tuition charge covers this range of credits. You may attempt to take more than 16 credits in a given semester if you have discussed with your advisor. If you wish to enroll in more than 18 credits in a given semester, you must also have permission from The Center for Advising and Academic Services, you can contact them at Advising@Marist.edu. Be advised that you will be charged by the credit hour for every credit over 16.
  • If you are closed out of a class or if you decide to change your schedule, you may do so during the add/drop period during the first week of classes in each semester.
  • Pay close attention to published deadlines to avoid serious academic and financial penalties. Marist will make every effort to remind you of the important dates and deadlines, but in the end, it is your responsibility to know the deadlines and to meet them.

FAQs

When should I make an appointment with my advisor?

You should make an appointment with your advisor as soon as possible. With the new registration system being live, it is imperative that you be prepared for your appointment. Have multiple courses selected, your worksheet ready with all CRN numbers on it, and use the Schedule of Classes Grid to resolve any time conflicts ahead of time.

How do I check if there are any holds on my account?

  1. Sign on to myMarist and enter your User name and Password
  2. Click on the Student tab at the top of the page
  3. Click on Banner Self Service 
  4. Click on Student Records
  5. Click on View Holds

If there are any holds on your account, please see the originating office as soon as possible to find out what needs to be done for the hold to be removed. The system will NOT allow you to log-in and register if there are any holds on your account.

How do I get an over-ride into a closed course? How do I get a prerequisite waived?

Processing for Overrides, Prerequisite Waivers, and Restriction Waivers

1. Prerequisite Form (green)

A prerequisite waiver request or a restriction waiver request is made by completing the corresponding form, which can be found at my.marist.edu, Student tab/Student Resources/Forms. You may then send the form to the Academic School for this course in an email that contains the reasons why you are seeking the waiver. The School will notify you of the decision. If approved, the School will send the approved form to the Registrar's Office for processing. The Registrar's Office must activate the exemption. Once that is done, you will be notified by the Registrar and you will then need to go into Banner Self-Service to register yourself for that course. You should submit these forms as soon as possible.

2. Over-ride Form (yellow)

If a course has reached its maximum enrollment, you may request an over-ride on a yellow Over-ride form.  This form can be found at my.marist.edu, Student tab/Student Resources/Forms. You may then send the form over to the academic school for this course requesting an over-ride. The school will then notify you of the decision. If approved, the school will send the approved form to the Registrar’s Office for processing. The Registrar’s Office will over-ride you into the course. Once that is done, you will be notified by the Registrar and may check your schedule. You need to make sure you have room in your schedule for the change and that you do not exceed 16 credits if you are not intending on taking more.

3. Major/Minor/Concentration/Level/Class Restriction Permit Form (pink)

A restriction may appear when registering for a course, if so, you may request a Major/Minor/Concentration/Level/Class Restriction Permit Form.  This form can be found at my.marist.edu, Student tab/Student Resources/Forms. You may then send the form to the Academic School for this course in an email that contains the restriction that appears when registering for the course. The School will notify you of the decision. If approved, the School will send the approved form to the Registrar's Office for processing. The Registrar's Office must activate the exemption. Once that is done, you will be notified by the Registrar and you will then need to go into Banner Self-Service to register yourself for that course. You should submit these forms as soon as possible.

 

**After submitting your forms, sign out of your Banner Self-Service account so that the Registrar’s Office can process your requests, if approved. Registrar is not able to process these forms if you are signed into your account. **

 

** You may also bring in any green and/or pink restriction forms to the Registrar's Office as soon as you have recieved approve (i.e. the signatures of the instructor and the Department chair or Dean, and the school stamp). This will ensure that those holds will be removed, enabling you to register. Also yellow overrides can be dropped off at the Registrar's Office. Yellow override forms will NOT be accepted until the beginning of registration.

How do I find my total earned credit hours?

Total earned hours are the total credit hours you have earned and accumulated at the end of the past Summer term. Your total earned credit hours can be found at:

  • Sign on to myMarist and enter your User name and Password
  • Click on the Student tab at the top of the page
  • Click on Banner Self Service
  • Click on Registration
  • Click on Registration Status
  • Click on Select Term (e.g. Fall or Winter)
  • To find your total earned credit hours, add institutional and transfer hours together.

How many credits should I register for?

To be considered full-time during the regular academic year (fall and spring semesters), students must register for a minimum of 12 credit hours. For most full-time students, the recommended academic load per semester is 15 credit hours so that they can reach the graduation requirement of 120 credits during the course of a four-year period -- the typical undergraduate experience. During the academic year, a student may elect to attempt a maximum of 18 credit hours each semester, but such a heavy load is not recommended. Students are advised to leave themselves enough time to prepare adequately for all of their courses and to engage in other activities on campus. Each credit taken over sixteen per semester is charged an additional fee at a per-credit-hour rate. To register for more than 18 hours in a single semester, a student must obtain the permission from The Center for Advising and Academic Services at Advising@Marist.edu. 

The maximum number of credits for which a student may register during the January intersession is three; during the summer, a student may register for a maximum total of nine credits distributed over all Marist summer sessions. Exceptions can be made by the Center for Advising and Academic Services.

Is it important to be full time?

If you are NOT a part-time student and your schedule does not add up to at least twelve credits, be sure to see your advisor immediately so that he/she can help you add courses necessary to bring you up to full-time status. You must be full-time to qualify for most types of financial aid and for housing. You may be removed from housing if you do not meet the enrollment requirements. It is also important to be full-time for billing purposes.

If you need to add course-work to round out your schedule or if you wish to drop a course, you should review your audit, make additional selections, and see your advisor for review.

What if I don't remember my sign on or password?

If you have forgotten your Marist Account information, the Helpdesk, at helpdesk@Marist.edu can assist you.

Why would it not allow me to enroll in a certain course?

To answer this question, it is helpful for you to understand the system of prerequisites and restrictions that are part of the registration process. Contact the Center for Advising and Academic Services for more information.

I received an error. What do I do?

A student may receive several messages if they have a hold such as financial or advisor on their record or it is not their scheduled time to register. If you do not see your error message below or you feel the error is incorrect, please contact the Registrar's Office at, Registrar@Marist.edu.

"You have no Registration Time Ticket. Please contact the registration administrator for your time ticket."

If you received this error, it is not your time to register. Please check your earned credits/class standing on the Registration Status page in my.Marist.edu, then check the registration schedule.

"You have holds which will prevent registration."

Review your holds on my.Marist.edu. Resolve the holds with the appropriate office or your advisor.

RESTRICTION ERROR MESSAGES:

Field of study restriction-Major (restricted just for a specific major).

Field of study restriction-Concentration (restricted for a specific concentration).

Field of study restriction-Minor-(restricted for a specific minor).

Class Restriction- Class is reserved for a specific class such as freshmen, sophomore, junior, or senior.

Level Restriction - student is registering for a course that is not their level such as an undergraduate trying to register for a graduate course.

 

"Time Conflict with CRN _ _ _ Student is trying to register for two courses that meet at the same time."

You have two courses in the same time slot. Select which one of the courses you want to register for and choose another option for the other course.
