Summer Pre-College Student Housing & Safety

Consistent with the Marist  Mission, the sense of community and the sense of service to others is important to us. Marist Summer Pre-College supports the development of the whole person: intellectually and socially. In addition to making lifelong friendships with one another, students have contact with many staff and faculty in both formal and informal settings. Our programs and services are designed to promote self-discovery, leadership development, healthy behaviors, and social responsibility as well as enjoyment. As you can imagine, Summer Pre-College will be a lot of fun and rewarding, but the safety and well-being of our students are a top priority.

Summer Pre-College Housing on the Marist Campus in Poughkeepsie, New York

Students will spend their 2-4 weeks living in Tom & Mary Ward Hall, our recently built upperclassmen apartments on the North End of campus. There are four students per apartment, and they each share a bathroom, common area, and kitchen. Living in this style housing gives students the opportunity to get to know three other suitemates. The building is managed by a Resident Director (R.D.) who is a professional staff member that lives in the building permanently during the summer. Additionally, each floor has at least one Resident Assistant (R.A.) who is an upperclassman student who returns to Marist for the summer. The R.A.'s live in the building as well, and act as mentors throughout the program and accompanies the students walking to class and on the field trips. The security office is also open 24/7 and maintains a visible presence on campus.

The Hudson Valley is a beautiful place to be during the summer months. The warm weather and views of the river make for exceptional scenery on the walk in-between classes and activities. Meal and field trip costs are included in the tuition cost for the program, however, if students wish to make additional purchases from the bookstore or on their field trips they will need to bring extra money.

Summer Pre-College Housing on the Marist Campus in Florence, Italy

Due to Italian government regulations regarding students under the age of 18, we are exploring our options to offer the Italy Summer Pre-College program for 2021 and beyond. This regulation does not impact students over the age of 18 in Marist's four-year degree programs or the Freshman Florence Experience. Please contact the Marist Admission Office with questions at admission@marist.edu.

Housing in Florence for our Summer Pre-College students is traditional apartment-style housing, located in a beautiful historic building in the heart of Florence. The residence hall, dining facility, and classrooms are all within easy walking distance, and students are always accompanied by a Marist staff member. The apartments range from two to eight students per apartment, two to three per room. International travel experiences vary per student, we ensure every student is safe and comfortable in their new environment, whether it be their 1st or 100th time traveling abroad. The building is managed by a Resident Director (R.D.) who is a professional staff member that lives in the building permanently during the summer. Additionally, the building has multiple Resident Assistants (R.A.) who are upperclassmen students who return to Marist for the summer. The R.A.'s live in the building as well, and act as mentors throughout the program and accompany the students on walks through the city and on all field trips. In addition, there is an overnight security officer for the apartment building. In Florence, your dining experience is more than great food – it’s an experience.  Italy is a culture dedicated to art of all kinds, including food. We invite our students to develop and explore the tastes and recipes of the region, including a cooking class and cheese and olive oil pairing by one of our Italian culinary professors.

Life outside the classroom offers a wealth of opportunity for personal growth and development that supports and enhances students' academic experience. Students have the opportunity to learn from the cultural education and immersion and participate in educational trips throughout Florence and other parts of Italy. The goal of these trips is to provide the students with hands-on academic learning and the opportunity to experience the rich culture and history of the surrounding area.
