Marist’s Media Studies and Production major is designed to provide a well-rounded education in both the theory and practice of the industry. Taught by faculty who live what they teach, our program will hone your creativity and passion to take you from the classroom to the production room.

Ananya Andrade: Combined Passions for a Double Major

"At Marist, there’s this hands-on, experiential learning environment and a culture that encourages an 'and,' not 'or' mentality—I’m not limited to just one thing."

With passions ranging from scriptwriting and production design to agricultural policy and development economics, Ananya sees every class as an opportunity to connect ideas across disciplines. She shared how her coursework often overlaps in unexpected ways, like Environmental Issues influencing her thinking in Economics, or concepts from Philosophical Perspectives shaping her storytelling in film.

Focus Your Coursework On Your Career Goals

Our Media Studies and Production students are afforded the flexibility of the Marist curriculum. Unique elective opportunities, like “Comedy Writing,” “Online Culture,” and “Race and Ethnicity in Film,” paired with a rigorous, foundational major education, prepares our students with both the theory and experience for practical application in the industry.

Learn Media Studies and Production From Industry Professionals

Our Media Studies and Production faculty provide you with the attention and specialization of a small school as well as the industry knowledge and technology of a global university. Our faculty is intentionally composed of industry professionals with a wide array of experiences, expertise, and training backgrounds, exposing our students to a variety of sub-disciplines both within and outside the Media majors.

“As a result of the emphasis on teaching and the students, we as faculty are really able to help guide our students on their creative projects in class. By the time our students enroll in their capping course, their projects reflect and integrate all the creative tools they have gained through hands-on experience.”

Perform Media Studies and Production Work for Real Clients

At Marist, we firmly believe that producing media that meets the needs of real clients, rather than simply satisfying the requirements of a class assignment, provides the real-world skills for an edge in the industry. That’s why our Media Studies and Production students are given the opportunity to produce work for real clients in the community, and even collaborate on interdisciplinary projects with students from other majors.
