Research Interests: My lab investigates the impact of prenatal exposure to drugs on developmental neurobiology. We are currently working on a project to investigate the effects of prenatal methadone exposure in an avian model using DTI imaging. We have also made great progress in tagging the precursors to neurotransmitters with multiple fluorine atom tags for use with magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. The National Institute on Drug abuse funded this work. This method will enable us to study the etiology of susceptibility to addiction and mental illness as we unravel how perinatal stress creates vulnerabilities in the neural substrates.
