Professional and State Credential Disclosure
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training at Marist College, graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC). Those passing this exam will be certified as Athletic Trainers by the BOC.
Currently, 49 states and the District of Columbia regulate the practice of athletic training. Individuals must be legally recognized by the appropriate state regulatory agency prior to practicing athletic training. The BOC exam is recognized by all Athletic Trainer state regulatory agencies to meet their exam requirement. Compliance with state regulatory requirements is mandatory and the only avenue to legal athletic training practice.
State credentialing in Athletic Training is dependent on many factors including, but not limited to educational requirements, examination requirements, and personal requirements. As a result, Marist College cannot determine whether completion of this program would be sufficient to meet all of the Athletic Training credential requirements outside of New York State. We advise you to contact the state regulatory board to determine whether the program meets requirements for the Athletic Training credential in the state in which you reside or intend to practice in.
