Inclement Weather

Winter Storm Warning & Campus Safety Guide 

Dates: Saturday, Jan. 24 – Monday, Jan. 26 

Severe winter weather can impact campus operations, classes, and student safety. This page provides the latest updates on closures, delays, and advisories. Check back frequently for real-time information and follow these tips to stay safe both on and off campus.

Final Update: Winter Storm – Posted Jan. 26

The National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Storm Warning for Dutchess County remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday.  Please continue to exercise caution during outdoor activities and avoid unnecessary travel to allow snow removal crews time to fully clear roads and walkways. 

 

Important Notice

Marist returns to normal operations on Tuesday, January 27. 

 

Parking Lot Closures

The following lots remain closed until Tuesday to support snow removal off-site:

  • Donnelly
  • Dyson
  • Foy
  • Midrise
  • East / West Beck
  • 51 Fulton Street

 

Classes

All day and evening classes resume at their regularly schedules times on Tuesday.

 

Campus Offices and Services

All campus offices reopen at their regularly scheduled hours on Tuesday. 

 

Dining Services

The Main Dining Hall at the Murray Student Center is open until 8 p.m. Monday. 

Yella’s North End Dining is open Monday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Dining services resumes at its regularly scheduled hours and locations on Tuesday.

 

Shuttle Services

Shuttle services resume Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. 

The new Shopping Shuttle route starts Tuesday at 5 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.

 

Library Hours

The library reopens at its regularly schedule hours on Tuesday.

 

Student Activities

All student and club activities scheduled for Monday remain cancelled.  All student and club activities resume as scheduled on Tuesday.

 

Athletic Facilities

McCann Fitness Center is open until 12 a.m. All athletic facilities are open at their regularly schedules hours and locations on Tuesday.

 

Winter Storm Update – Posted Jan. 25

The National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Storm Warning for Dutchess County remains in effect until Monday, January 26, at 7 p.m. The New York State (NYS) declared State of Emergency is also still in effect and residents are urged to remain inside and avoid travel for the remainder of the storm.  The weather forecast calls for 5 – 7 inches of additional snow accumulation for the remainer of Sunday and Monday.

Important Notice: All classes remain cancelled for Monday, January 26.  Essential staff only should report to work.  Essential employees required to work on campus will be paid in accordance with their respective bargaining agreement and/or University policy.  

Additional storm-related schedule and operational modifications are outlined below.

 

Monday, January 26

Classes

All day and evening classes are cancelled.

 

Campus Offices and Services

Campus offices are closed except for essential services (Campus Safety, Physical Plant, Dining Services). 

 

Parking Lot Closures

The following lots remain closed until snow removal is finished:

  • Dyson
  • Foy
  • Midrise
  • East / West Beck
  • 51 Fulton Street
  • McCann lot (South Side)

Dining Services

Dining services will open at the Murray Student Center Dining Hall beginning at 9 a.m. Monday. Please monitor your email for additional Dining information; if more facilities are able to open throughout the day, we will email you.

 

Shuttle Services

Shuttle services are suspended until Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.

 

Library Hours

The Library is closed.

 

Student Activities

All student and club activities scheduled for Monday are cancelled.

 

Athletic Facilities

McCann Fitness Center and McCormick Hall Gym will open for students only at 1 p.m.

 

Student Support Services

Severe weather can cause stress or anxiety, which is a normal response. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or concerned about your safety or someone else’s well-being, contact Campus Safety or your RA/RD on duty. While Counseling Services will be closed, an On-Call Counselor is available by calling  (845) 575-3314 and pressing 1. Take time to care for yourself and check in with others.

 

Winter Storm Update – Posted Jan. 23 

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Dutchess County from Sunday, Jan. 25, 7 a.m. – Monday, Jan. 26, 7 p.m., with expected snow accumulations of 12–18 inches. New York State has declared a State of Emergency as a precaution and urges drivers to stay off the roads. 

Marist University continues to closely monitor conditions. University leadership and Residential Life are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety, well-being, and continued support of our residential community.

 

Important Weather Announcements

Saturday, January 24 

Parking Lot Closures 

To facilitate campus-wide snow removal and continuity of operation, the following lots will be closed beginning Saturday at 3 p.m. and will reopen once snow removal is finished. Residential students are instructed to move cars out of these lots. 

  • Donnelly 
  • Dyson 
  • Foy 
  • Fontaine 
  • Midrise 
  • East / West Beck 
  • 51 Fulton Street 

In addition, half of the McCann lot (closest to McCann) will be closed on Saturday at 9 p.m. until snow is cleared. See a parking map here.  

 

Classes and Services 

  • All Saturday classes, student support services, and student activities will proceed as scheduled. 

 

Religious Services 

  • Sunday's Catholic Mass has been rescheduled to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. There will be no Mass on Sunday. 
     

Sunday, January 25 

Classes 

  • Weekend Paralegal classes will be held remotely. 

 

Dining Services 

  • Dining services will operate at the Murray Student Center Dining Hall only, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

 

Library Hours 

  • The Library will be closed. 

 

Student Activities 

  • All student and club activities scheduled for Sunday are cancelled. 
  • The SPC Broadway trip to see Stranger Things has been rescheduled for February 8. 

 

Athletic Facilities 

  • McCann Fitness Center and McCormick Fitness Center will be closed. 

 

Religious Services 

  • Sunday Catholic Mass has been rescheduled to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. 
     

Monday, January 26 

Classes

  • All day and evening classes are cancelled. 

 

Campus Offices and Services 

  • Campus offices will be closed except for essential staff. Check back Sunday for Monday’s Dining hours and other campus updates. 

 

Resident Student Safety Tips  

  • Prepare for the storm: Stock up on food, medications, and personal essentials before Sunday. 
  • Limit travel & stay indoors: Only go outside for essential trips, such as dining. Use caution on icy sidewalks and avoid tree limbs or power lines. 
  • Monitor campus communications: Check your Marist email, MaristAlert messages, the Inclement Weather Line at (845) 575-5500, and this website for the latest updates. 
  • Student Support Services: Severe weather can cause stress or anxiety. Contact Campus Safety or your RA/RD on Duty if you need help. While Counseling Services offices are closed, an On-Call Counselor is available at (845) 575-3314, press 1.

How Marist Communicates Delays & Closures 

In the event of inclement weather, Marist will make every effort to notify students, faculty, and staff of any delays or closures by 6 a.m. Official communications will be sent via MaristAlert (email and text), and updates will also be available on the Marist.edu homepage and the Inclement Weather Line at (845) 575-5500. 

To receive timely push notifications about weather alerts, please download the MaristSafe app, which complements the MaristAlert system. 

If the campus remains open during inclement weather, students and employees should use their best judgment when deciding whether to travel. Employees should inform their supervisor if they plan to be late or absent and indicate any use of leave credits. Commuter students should notify their instructors directly.
