Location

Beijing, the political and cultural capital of China, is the ideal location to study contemporary China because of the friendly and proud native to the area. Beijing is a fun and exciting city that has many entertainment and recreational opportunities. The best way to get around the city quickly is through the metro but there is also a bus and trolley system.

Institution

The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) is among the top universities in China and consists of 25,000 students. In 1972, the university served as the forum for President Nixon’s visit in which diplomatic relations between China and the United States were restored. Transcripts are accredited to Lincoln University in the United States. Classes are taught in English and students have the option of studying Mandarin during their stay.

Academics

Students will find that every location they visit in the city is a chance to learn something new. From visiting Beijing’s most significant palaces, such as the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, to enjoying local customs, tea tastings, and regional cuisine, students will be able to practice the language skills they acquire and explore their historical city.

Students are able to enroll in a wide range of courses based on Mandarin language, Business, Chinese culture, and internships. Academics focus heavily on the business and economic type classes. Students must enroll in a minimum of 15 credits or a maximum of 18 credits per semester. While students are not required to partake in Mandarin language classes, those who wish to do so will take an evaluation exam during registration to determine the level of proficiency to adequately place you in a Mandarin course.

Student Life & Co-Curricular

The university provides many campus clubs and events that students can join. Some activities include Chinese calligraphy and martial arts. The campus is also equipped with many different sporting fields such as a pool and basketball court. Students are able to partake in community service as well. KEI arranges for students to partake in cultural activities around Beijing such as visiting the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, and the Peking Opera.  

Housing

Students will reside at the International Student Residence on campus. The residence is comprised of double occupancy rooms with a bathroom, tv and telephone in each room. The building has a dining hall that serves Chinese food, a cafe, and two restaurants. Internet is available on campus but the Chinese government censors the internet so not all websites are accessible.

Program Cost           

The program fee includes tuition (12-16 credits), accommodation, program orientation, scheduled academic excursions, and international health insurance. The program cost is based on full-time semester tuition and on-campus Marist housing. Students receive a detailed cost sheet once they have been admitted to the Marist Abroad Program.

Admission Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application
• Sophomore standing or higher at the time of study abroad
• Academic Advisor approval of program and coursework
