Study biomedical sciences in one of the UK's leading institutions and receive credit towards your Marist Science Degree

Program Location

Canterbury is historic cathedral city and UNESCO Heritage site, located in the southeast of England, about one hour from London. It is consistently one of the most-visited cities in the United Kingdom, and hosts a substantial student presence thanks to several large university campuses. Additionally, Canterbury is known for having a thriving cosmopolitan atmosphere while remaining relatively small compared to other English cities. More than 3,000 international students from over 140 countries ensure a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Institution

Founded in 1965, University of Kent is a research university with over 20 different schools. UKC is a modern self-contained campus built on 300 acres of parkland overlooking the city. The Canterbury campus is built on 300 acres of parkland approximately 30 minutes from the city center. Campus itself is a centralized, with student accommodation, library, sports center, arts centers, shops, eateries, medical center, and more. The University is ranked in the top 20 UK universities and one of the world’s top 100 under 50 years old.

Program Description

The School of Biological Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry, Biology, and Biomedical Science in addition to graduate degrees and is active in high-level research. Marist students have unique access as exchange students to participate for the semester, earning credits towards their Science Degree at Marist. This particular program is offered at the Canterbury campus.

Academics, Coursework, and Co-curricular

Students will enroll in the Biosciences (BI) course track and select from modules (classes) offered based on their semester of attendance. Students enroll with both local and other international students, for a unique academic environment. Students work with School of Science staff prior to attending to identify courses that meet the students' academic, professional, and personal goals.

Housing & Student Life

Student accommodations for study abroad students come in three varieties:

  • Undergraduate college accommodation
  • Undergraduate self-catering accommodation
  • Off campus accommodation

Students arrange their own accommodation with the overseas school based on their preferences. Additionally, as this is an exchange program, students make housing payments directly to University of Kent. Tuition charges remain the same, paid directly to Marist. Additional information on University of Kent housing options can be found at the links below:

Kent Union, the Students’ Union, is the student representative body for students at the university. The organization includes over 100 student societies, including over 45 student sports clubs. The campus is also home to theater, music performance center, a nightclub, cinema, eateries, bars, and shops. Within walking distance from campus is the historic Canterbury city center.
