Location

London, the capital of England, is a city full of history and culture. London is filled with attractions from the Tower of London, Big Ben, Westminster, Oxford Street, and so much more. It is one of the world’s most diverse cities where a multitude of languages are spoken and many cultural activities take place throughout the year. The city is very easily navigated through the London underground (subway) system.

Institution

The Slade School of Fine Art, University College London was founded in 1871. The institute has access to art resources around the world and provides students with the opportunity to study first-hand works of art in local galleries and museums. Slade is small in size, with around 260 students enrolled, which allows for a more intimate community of students. The institute is located in Central London and is very close to many galleries such as the British Museum, and Courtauld Galleries.

Academics

Students do not enroll in specific courses at Slade, instead the program is based on independent studio work. Students work one on one with tutors to design a course of study and evaluate progress. The program requires you to be highly engaged and self-motivated. Disciplines of the program include fine art, contemporary art, contemporary art history, and contemporary art theory. The IES center is located nearby the University College London for students needs and provides internet, printing, a library, and a student lounge. Upon arrival to London, student will partake in an orientation to help them adjust to their new life in London.

Student Life & Co-curricular

IES provides students with cultural events throughout the semester such as sporting events, performance, and tours throughout the city at popular destinations. The university also has multiple clubs and events that students can partake in. There are more than 140 clubs and societies. Students are also able to go on excursions through IES to locations such as Stonehenge and Bath, Brighton, Liverpool, Oxford, Cambridge, and Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Housing

Students are able to live in the university’s self-catered student houses. University housing includes a kitchen, bathroom, and internet access.

Program Cost

The program fee includes tuition (12-16 credits), accommodation, program orientation, scheduled academic excursions, and international health insurance. The program cost is based on full-time semester tuition and on-campus Marist housing. Students receive a detailed cost sheet once they have been admitted to the Marist Abroad Program.

Admission Criteria

• Minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA at the time of application
• Sophomore standing or higher at the time of study abroad
• Academic Advisor approval of program and coursework
