Study Abroad
Greece, Athens - Webster University: Odyssey in Athens
Study in the birthplace of the Western Civilization for a semester.
Location
One of the world’s oldest cities, the history of Athens spans over 3,400 years. The birthplace of democracy, the center of art and philosophy, Athens is truly a remarkable place to live and study. The natural beauty of the surrounding area is not to be missed either – beaches along the southern coast and national parks and refuges are easily accessible as well.
Institution
Webster University was founded in 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri, however it quickly expanded globally. The campus is located in the Plaka area of Athens, at the foot of the Acropolis.
Academics
The city of Athens itself is a classroom, fostering a positive environment for learning. A wide range of courses are offered at Webster University in Athens. Examples of areas of study are archaeology, ethnography, history, politics, and language. Classes are small. Expect to interact through discussion and conversation while in class with faculty and your peers. Students are encouraged to take advantage of living in Greece, by interacting with locals and Greek students. Classes either have a focus on Greece or the wider spectrum of a global world.
Student Life & Co-Curricular
Orientation upon arrival will prepare international students with the information of how to get around the city, locate grocery stores, and find local activities. Students are also often invited on excursions to ancient sites like Mycenea, Meteora, Sparti-Mystra, Delphi, and the Greek Isles. Organized clubs like basketball, soccer, and volleyball are available. Students are encouraged to participate in volunteer and community service with non-profit organizations in Athens.
Housing
Students stay in fully furnished apartments in the Plaka area near campus where students can find the picturesque streets of Athens, local restaurants and cafes, as well as artistic culture.
Program Cost
The program fee includes tuition (12-16 credits), accommodation, program orientation, scheduled academic excursions, and international health insurance. The program cost is based on full-time semester tuition and on-campus Marist housing. Students receive a detailed cost sheet once they have been admitted to the Marist Abroad Program.
