Study Abroad
New Zealand, Auckland - IES: Auckland - University of Auckland Direct Enrollment
Immerse yourself in the prior wonders of Auckland as you study from a vast array of courses.
Location
Auckland is a city filled with adventure from the hike up Mount Eden to the sailing in Waitemata Harbour. The diverse population of Auckland is made up of European, Maori, Asian, and Pacific Islanders. But, the heritage of the Maori is what makes Auckland so distinct. The Polynesian influences have helped to shape the beauty of the natural monuments.
Institution
The University of Auckland was founded in 1883 and is a member of the Universitas 21. The university has around 40,000 students with upwards of 4,000 students from 93 different countries. In the heart of Auckland, the university expands over 39 acres of land.
Academics
Students enroll alongside Auckland students in courses that are taught in English. The University provides multiple occasions where students can indulge themselves into the Kiwi culture. Students are able to partake in accredited internships.
The University of Auckland has classes ranging from the arts to theology. Some courses may require excursions such as exploring the Maori culture hands-on. For juniors and seniors, there are options to apply for an accredited internship. Students can enroll in up to 60 points at the university. A 15 point course is the equivalent of 4 credits.
Student Life & Co-Curricular
The University has many clubs that students can join and meet the natives. University amenities such as libraries, cafes, a theater, and art galleries are available to the students. A few field trips, at the expense of the student, are organized by the university such as a trip to Wellington. Events are held throughout the month by the city of Auckland. Students housed through university accommodation receive membership to the recreation center. IES provides a field trip to the Cook Islands where students can explore beaches and traverse through mountains.
Housing
Students are provided two options for housing in Auckland, there are homestays and apartments. Homestays provide an insight into the lives of residents of New Zealand. A homestay provides a private room and up to 16 meals per week. Students can have up to a 45 minute commute to campus. Apartments for students are fully furnished and differ in size and occupant number. Students must prepare their own meals. Internet is free and the commute can be up to a 20 minute bus ride.
