Location
Moscow is the heart of Russia as the center of commerce, religion, science, education and society. Mass transport is well developed, timely and convenient for travel within Moscow.
Institution
Moscow State University is a public research university founded in 1755. There are approximately 47,000 undergraduate and graduate students attending – 4,000 of which are international. MSU boasts the largest library in Russia with over 9 million books, 2 million of which are in foreign language.
Academics
Students are taught the Russian language through immersion classes in addition to electives. After a language proficiency exam, students will be placed in Russian language classes. Electives are styled like traditional classes, while internships (for credit) and community service (not for credit) give hands on experience in professional interests.
Beginner to Advanced immersion Russian language classes are offered. Russian Studies Seminar is a required class; students can then choose between electives such as: Russian Literature, Russian Art, Mass Media in Russia, Russian History, Political Economy of Russia, Russian Business Practice, Russian Political System, or Legal Structure in Russia.
Student Life & Co-Curricular
Internships and volunteer work are available for qualified students. Students are encouraged to participate in campus clubs and events. Examples of clubs include: Students Union, Young Researchers Council, Student Theater Workshop, Ballroom Dancing Club, Modern Dance Theater, Mountaineering Club, Baseball Club, Football (Soccer) Team and many more. KEI organizes cultural field trips and activities in Moscow, Vladimir and Suzdal, and an extended excursion to St. Petersburg.
Housing
Residence halls, shared apartments or host families are available to students. Most bedrooms are double-occupancy and shared with a KEI, international or Russian students. Students living in a shared apartment or with a host family have access to the kitchen common area. Some residence halls also have shared kitchens and common areas. However, dinning halls and restaurants are easily accessible.
Program Cost
The program fee includes tuition (12-16 credits), accommodation, program orientation, scheduled academic excursions, and international health insurance. The program cost is based on full-time semester tuition and on-campus Marist housing. Students receive a detailed cost sheet once they have been admitted to the Marist Abroad Program.
Admission Criteria
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application
- Sophomore standing or higher at the time of study abroad
- Academic Advisor approval of program and coursework
