Marist recognized for Telepresence Initiative. College receives ACUTA Award for Institutional Excellence
Marist College is the recipient of the 2014 ACUTA award for Institutional Excellence in Information Technology in its Medium Size Institution category for the College’s “TelePresence Initiative.” ACUTA is the Association for College and University Technology Advancement. The IEA award was earned for the unique way Marist has leveraged the immersive capability of telepresence technology to enhance academic learning and research initiatives in support of the College’s mission. This initiative enables participants to interact with each other as they would if they were in the same room. The technology, which becomes transparent, allows collaboration with business and research partners, transcending geographical and time differences while saving time and money.
Announced at ACUTA's annual conference in Dallas, Tex. in March, the award was presented at a special ceremony earlier this month at Marist's Historic Cornell Boathouse, which was attended by President Dennis Murray and senior administrators and IT staff.
The award for Institutional Excellence in Information Technology is ACUTA’s most prestigious institutional award, recognizing excellence and professionalism in information technology. Applications are evaluated on the basis of scope and complexity of the endeavor, technological leadership, benefit to the institution and key constituents, and demonstration of excellence and professionalism. The endeavor, product, or service should be innovative and exemplary and should provide significant advantage to the institution, faculty, staff, and/or students. Winners are selected by the ACUTA Awards Committee on the basis of the information technology department’s contribution to and support of the mission of the institution and are announced at a special luncheon at the Annual Conference.
