Marist College

The FOLD honored again for groundbreaking online fashion education

POUGHKEEPSIE (June 19, 2014) – The team behind The FOLD, Marist's global, free, peer-to-peer online fashion learning and collaboration platform, has again been recognized again for the project's innovative use of open-source technologies. The latest honor comes in the form of the 2014 Campus Technology Innovator Award in the "teaching and learning" category from the leading publication covering technology in higher education.

This is Marist's third Campus Technology Innovator Award. The College was recognized in 2013 for the Open Academic Analytics Initiative and in 2006 for a student-centered podcasting project.

In April, Senior Academic Technology Officer Josh Baron and Melissa Halvorson, visiting professional lecturer in fashion, both received Teaching With Sakai Innovation Awards from the Apereo Foundation.

"It's wonderful to see Marist recognized for making an effective and creative use of two key pieces of Apereo sponsored technology: Sakai, and the Apereo Open Academic Environment" said Ian Dolphin, Executive Director of the Apereo Foundation, referring to the open-source software upon which The FOLD is built. "This speaks strongly not just to Marist's drive for value-driven innovation, but to the power of open source software in helping realize that innovation."
