Collaborative Discussion with Randy Florke and Gwen Walz, March 16, 2017
MEMORANDUM TO THE MARIST COLLEGE COMMUNITY
FROM: DAVID YELLEN
On Monday, March 20, Marist College is delighted to host Randy Florke and Gwen Walz, who will present a collaborative discussion entitled "A Personal History of the Gay Civil Rights Movement." Randy Florke has worked throughout his adult lifetime to promote equality for all. In March 2013, he traveled to Washington, D.C. to hear the arguments before the Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Windsor, a decision that led to his own nuptials to Sean Patrick Maloney, New York’s first openly gay Congressman. Randy Florke's co-presenter is Gwen Walz, wife of Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz and an advocate for civil rights, public education, and prison education.
This important conversation will take place on March 20 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Murray Student Center 3104-3105. Please feel free to share the attached flyer and encourage your students and colleagues to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Freddy Garcia at Freddimir.Garcia@marist.edu.
