Navigate Welcome Week Like a Pro

August 21, 2023 — Welcome Week helps both new and returning students transition back into college life, make new connections, and get involved with the campus community. The week-long activities set the tone for an incredible year filled with growth, friendships, and new opportunities.

It’s also a time for students to become familiar with the many academic and student support services the College offers as it focuses on promoting health, well-being, and overall student success. Here are three tips to help you make the most of Welcome Week:

1. Familiarize Yourself with the First-Year Programs Guidebook & On-Campus Resources Image of FYP Guidebook App

The First-Year Programs Guidebook is specifically for first-year students and new transfer students. As you review the guidebook events, know that these events are JUST FOR STUDENTS! After students move in and say a final goodbye to their parents and loved ones, there are a host of first-year programs to help new students spread their wings and get comfortable in their new environment. These includes things like the New Student Welcome, the Red Fox Rumble, and Meet the Dean and Faculty.

The start of a new school year is an exhilarating time but can often feel overwhelming as students transition into college life. To ease stress and get equipped with tools for academic success and personal well-being, review the following key resources:

Amidst the busyness of moving in, attending events, and gearing up for class, there’s a lot that you may need during Welcome Week. Fortunately, there are a number of stores, restaurants, and amenities within walking distance of the Marist campus — in fact, many are directly across the street!

Businesses include ShopRite, CVS, Rite Aid, Chipotle, Salsa Fresca, Starbucks, and more. Learn more about Hudson River Valley life and its amenities here

Bonus Tip: A growing number of off-campus merchants at Hudson Heritage and in the local Poughkeepsie community take Marist Money. See participating local businesses here.
