September 23, 2025 — The School of Management has expanded its business offerings with the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in finance, now available to students. The program offers a more specialized education in finance while maintaining the flexibility of the University’s broader business curriculum.

"This new degree addresses feedback from industry leaders, alumni, prospective students, and other stakeholders looking for deeper engagement within the finance curriculum," said Dr. Patrick Gosselin, Assistant Professor of Finance and Chair of the B.S. in Finance Curriculum Committee. “By offering both the finance concentration within the B.S. in Business Administration and the new B.S. in Finance, students have maximum flexibility to tailor their academic program to their individual goals.”

Specialized Coursework for a Competitive Edge

The B.S. in Finance requires 12 additional credit hours of finance-specific coursework compared to the Business Administration degree with a finance concentration. This added depth of study signals to future employers and graduate schools that students have completed a specialized credential in finance.

“Marist has a long record of excellence in finance, with strong connections to leading firms in every sector of the field,” said Dr. Will Lamb, Dean of the School of Management. “This new degree will help students build an even stronger dossier as they prepare for their careers in finance. This program was developed in response to feedback from current and prospective students, and I’m excited to see it launch!”

Marist graduates regularly land jobs at leading investment firms such as JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Jefferies and BlackRock, as well as Fortune 500 companies including IBM and Regeneron. Learn more about student outcomes here.

The program allows students to pursue one or more of Marist’s established finance tracks: corporate finance, investments, and financial markets. Students also gain hands-on experience through opportunities such as managing real assets in the Greystone Student-Managed Investment Fund and exploring international business through the ASPIRE study abroad program.

Preparing Students for Impactful Careers

Graduates of the program will be prepared for diverse careers in finance, from investment banking to corporate financial management, as well as roles in economics and consulting. The program also creates a strong academic foundation for those pursuing graduate studies in business and finance.

“This degree is about preparing our students to thrive in an increasingly competitive, globally connected financial industry,” Gosselin said.

The curriculum was developed by a committee of finance professors, including Dr. Kavous Ardalan, Brian Haughey, Jay Pantaleo, Christopher Reck, Dr. Meghana Vaidya, and Dr. Xiaoli Wang, chaired by Dr. Patrick Gosselin. The group incorporated feedback from recruiters, admissions officers, parents, alumni, and current students to ensure the program responds to real-world needs. They also benchmarked nearly two dozen peer and aspirational schools to ensure Marist graduates remain highly competitive in the marketplace.

Enrollment Open

The B.S. in Finance is now open to incoming and current students. Current students interested in switching majors should meet with their advisors to determine graduation timelines and any additional course requirements.
