Jimmy Tsiantoulas
Rockland, MassachusettsAcademic School
Communication & the ArtsCampus
New YorkLike many, Jimmy Tsiantoulas, '24, didn't initially know what he wanted to study when he started his college journey, only that he wanted to work in the sports industry. After touring Marist and being admitted, Jimmy entered as a Communication major, with concentrations in Sports Communication and Journalism. His goal? To work for ESPN.
Jimmy knew to land his dream job, he needed to put in the work.
"I spent every chance I got to better myself and honing my talents," Jimmy said.
He explained that people need to be comfortable being uncomfortable, "You are constantly going to have to learn new things to better yourself; that's just the name of the game."
He didn't have much video or editing experience before starting at Marist but soon learned after being given a crash course. From there, it was a matter of sharpening those skills.
In his junior year, Jimmy earned the opportunity few students receive: travel to report on - and create content for - both the men's and women's basketball teams.
"It had always been a goal of mine to travel all over the country to work on sports events, regardless of said sport. Being flown out to Indiana to watch the men's basketball team take on Notre Dame is something I am beyond thankful for," Jimmy said.
Jimmy recommends Marist students explore all the avenues the sports world has to offer.
"Don't just be good at everything but great at nothing. Find what you are passionate about and work to excel in it."
