December 14, 2022 – One of Marist’s newest faculty members has been honored among the most influential people in accounting, according to Accounting Today. The publication includes Tracey Niemotko, Associate Professor of Accounting, in its Top 100 Most Influential list.

Part of an historically large new cohort of faculty to join Marist for this academic year, Niemotko is an accounting educator with extensive professional experience. She is also an attorney-at-law, certified public accountant, and certified fraud examiner. Niemotko currently serves as one of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ representatives on the Governing Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Accounting Today praised Niemotko for “her focus on the future of accounting education, to her recently published book on sustainability accounting and her engagement with shaping climate disclosure standards.”

Niemotko said she appreciates the recognition and is grateful to apply her industry experiences to higher education. “My motivation for being an active participant in the accounting profession is to bridge the gap between academia and the workplace,” she said. “I hope that my professional outreach and networking will enhance the visibility of the College and promote employment and internship opportunities for our students.”

Niemotko joined Marist ahead of this new academic year. As her first semester on campus ends, she says her experience here has been a rewarding one.

“Teaching at Marist is a pleasure! I feel fortunate to be part of such a highly regarded institution with visionary leadership and accomplished colleagues and students,” she said.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Prof. Niemotko on the faculty at Marist,” said Dr. Will Lamb, Dean of Marist’s School of Management. “The depth of her involvement in the profession is such an asset to our students. She is a gifted and caring teacher, and a great colleague.”

Niemotko has also authored several books and articles, and her current research interest in sustainability is reflected in her most recent publication, Sustainability Accounting and Reporting – The Evolution of Management Accountability
