Federal Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program gives you an opportunity to earn money to help pay for your educational expenses, interpersonal skills, time management, and workplace etiquette within the student’s job. Your work-study earnings won’t affect your eligibility for Federal Financial Aid. This program provides opportunities to serve the community (including tutoring) and to work in areas related to your course of study. Your employer knows you are a college student first. Therefore, employers try to be as flexible as possible in scheduling your work hours around your class schedule. FWS provides many valuable experiences and future employers are impressed with students who have work experience.

Your Supervisor may become an excellent future reference. Your FWS job adds a new dimension to your career planning and distinguishes your background from other job seekers. Part-time employment through FWS enhances your education and adds a new perspective to your studies. You will see things from another point of view, which will help to develop your analytical and critical thinking skills.

Campus Employment

Campus Employment also allows students, regardless of financial need, the opportunity to work on campus while boosting their resume, time management, problem-solving, and other life skills. Students who have special skills, or experience (ex. Computer skills, lifeguards) or work schedules that certain positions on campus require, may be hired at any time. After the 2 week period for only work-study hire, (beginning of Fall and Spring semesters), all students are eligible to apply for available jobs through the FoxQuest online job portal.

Policies Regarding Student Employment

Pay Levels and Rates

Marist College is legally obligated to pay every student employee minimum wage or higher. Undergraduate student employees are paid the minimum wage; graduate students are eligible to earn a slightly higher allocation, which is evaluated and determined every calendar year. Eligibility for the graduate rate is determined by each individual office.

New Hire Policy

Federal law requires all employees to prove their eligibility to work in the United States PRIOR to working. This certification requires that the students fill out the New Hire Paperwork as described by the Student Employment Office via the myMarist portal.

College Policy

During the academic year, along with our winter break, the college can only hire Marist students for on-campus positions through our student employment program. During winter and summer breaks, departments should make every effort to fill positions with Marist students. If you are unable to do so, contact studentfinancialservices@marist.edu.
