Why this is fraud
- This instagram account is private, whereas the valid instagram is public
- The winner announcement is generic and vague, and does not specify what kind of contest it is, or what the prize might be
- The link in the private message leads to a third party website that asks for personal information, including a credit card number

Additional notes
- How does this scam work? The scammers specifically targeted the valid Marist Eats followers and sent them private messages under the fake account. The fake instagram account was set up just for this purpose, to have a similar account to send the fraudulent winner announcements from.
- Spelling and grammatical errors are good indicators of malicious messages.
- Remember: always check the link. You can hover over the link in the primate message to ensure that it goes to a valid Marist website. On a mobile device, you can tap and hold the link to preview the page and see the website location.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions! It's okay to contact the purported sender by phone to see if the a message is real.
