Ava '27
Hometown: New Hyde Park, N.Y.
Major: Adolescent Education - Biology (5-Year Program)
On Campus Involvement: As a wellness board member and counseling representative for the Student Government Association, I frequently collaborate with my board to plan events promoting mental/physical wellness to students at Marist. Some events I have contributed to include our recent "Coffee and Consent" Sexual Assault Awareness event, and our "Spring Break Safety" and "Positive Affirmation" pop-ups.
I also am a member of Marist's Teachers of Tomorrow, which allows future educators of various age concentrations to learn about various components and expectations of education. It has helped me discover what it means to be a future teacher. As a club we have contributed to various community-based activities, with my favorites being our "Princesses and Pirates" Halloween event in October and our Toys for "TOTS" drive in December.
Marist Spiritual Life and Service allowed me to give back to the Poughkeepsie Community by volunteering at a local elementary school to help assist with various levels of science learning to young students.
Additional Activities: Outside Marist, I am a substitute teacher for a local elementary school in my hometown, where I enjoy teaching and mentoring young students in many different areas of learning. I enjoy listening to music, going to the beach, or enjoying the sun in my free time.
Advice for the Class of 2028: Before I graduated high school, I left my senior class with the quote "Life is short, smile more." Enjoying the little things is so important. While you are transitioning to a new, exciting, but unknown time in your life, it is important to not be so hard on yourself. Everything always works out! Enjoy what is going on around you because it all goes so fast.
Chloe '27

Advice for the Class of 2028: What helped me the most was the reminder that everyone else was going through the same experience; we all were starting college and figuring things out. I realized I wasn't alone in how I felt. I was worried about a lot of stuff, including finding where I "fit" and making friends. Realizing that others were worried about this too helped me get over that fear and talk to new people.

Lena '26
Hometown: Wethersfield, Conn.
Major: Communication, Public Relations and Advertising Concentrations
On Campus Involvement: Since coming to Marist in the fall of 2022, I have joined a plethora of campus activities. For my major, I have become a board member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, was invited to be an Account Executive for North Road Communications as part of their Greystone Programs team, and am a lead anchor/co-producer of Marist College Television. Aside from the career oriented extra-curriculars, I am also a choreographer and member of the Marist College Dance Ensemble, have been inducted into the National Society for Leadership and Success, and am a manager at the Student Activities office. Last fall I spent four months of the academic year studying abroad in Florence, Italy. It was the experience of a lifetime and opened the door to endless possibilities and memories I will take with me through the rest of my time here at Marist.
Additional Activities: In the Summer of 2016 I founded a non-profit project called, "Cupcakes Curing Cancer" where I donate all proceeds to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in support of funding childhood cancer research. Over the past eight years, I can proudly say my project has raised over $4,000 for this amazing cause! Aside from helping out in the community, I also love to bake and dance in my free time. Both of these hobbies have become my escape from reality, releasing all stress and allowing me to be in the moment.
Advice for the Class of 2028: The four years of college only come around once, so enjoy every moment while you can. Study hard...but also remember to have fun! There truly is a multitude of opportunities here at Marist, and I recommend you do all you can to take advantage of each one. Never stop doing the things you love or are passionate about...even in college they're important to hold onto! It can definitely get exhausting, and hard to tackle, but it's so worth it in the end.
Lindsey '25

Advice for the Class of 2028: College is a big change, but don’t let that scare you! These are the years to find yourself and your passions, so don’t be afraid to head to that club meeting or try out for a sport, or even say hi to the people living on your floor. There is a place for everyone here at Marist. :)

Maddie '27

In addition, I am a student ambassador, a campus tour guide, and a Peer Mentor. I am working towards becoming a member of the Ambassador Student Leadership Board as well!
Advice for the Class of 2028: You’ll find your people. This period of time isn't always going to be easy but remind yourself that you came this far - remember to celebrate that! It's good to branch out and college is such a transitional time for everyone; when the time is right, your best friends will come into your life. These will be people who make you smile, who will always be there for you, and who will help you become the best version of yourself!
Matthew '25
Hometown: Livingston, N.J.Major: English
Minor: Writing
On Campus Involvement: I work in the First Year Programs office, and I occasionally participate in the Marist Game Society and Anime Club events.
Additional Activities: I am a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and other board/video games. I do art and drawing to help me relax after school is done. I'm also a big hiker back home, and I try to keep up with it at Marist.
Advice for the Class of 2028: You are going to meet so many new people, so make the most of it and make connections. You never know who could be in your classes and able to help you with studying, or who will also be in the dining hall at the same time that you can sit down with.
Megan '27
Hometown: Feeding Hills, Mass.Major: Business Administration, Marketing Concentration
Minor: Psychology
On Campus Involvement: On campus, I am a member of the Marist Women's Club Volleyball team and I participated in volleyball intramurals. I am also involved in the Women in Business, Fox P.A.W., Spiritual Life & Service, and Catholic Connections clubs.
Additional Activities: Off campus, I love to play volleyball during the summer, explore new places, and spend time with my friends and family. I also enjoy going thrifting with my sister, hiking, gardening, and experiencing new things.
Advice for the Class of 2028: Everything will work out in the end! Don’t stress about your roommate situation, meeting friends, or being away from home. Everything works out with time; just give yourself a chance to fully embrace the college experience– push through the homesickness, get involved in activities and clubs, talk to your neighbors and classmates, and Marist will soon become your home away from home.
Miles '26
Hometown: Brookfield, Conn.Major: Biomedical Sciences
Minor: Music
On Campus Involvement: I am involved heavily with Marist Music and am the current Treasurer for the Singers Executive Board! I am also a Student Worker in the Music Office, and a member of The Enharmonics, Marist's all-voice a capella group. In addition, I play intramural basketball, and am a Teaching Assistant for General Chemistry Lab.
Advice for the Class of 2028: The best advice I can give is to try your absolute best at every single thing you do. There aren't many things worse than regret, and if you can look back on your time at Marist and say with pride that you gave your academics, sports, activities, and relationships everything you had, you'll not only have many stories to tell, but you'll simultaneously be setting yourself up for success after graduation. I've seen so many people with raw talent struggle to harness their potential because they don't have the motivation to better themselves, and even if you don't have natural aptitude, hard work will beat out talent every time.
Olivia '26
Hometown: Harrison, N.Y.
Majors: Psychology, Italian
On Campus Involvement: This year I've held the vice president position for Marist Singers, and have also been a member of Sirens, the all-female a cappella group, since my first year. I am currently a resident assistant in Upper West and am completing my first year as part of the housing staff. This year I was also inducted into the Italian honor society, Gamma Kappa Alpha.
Additional Activities: Back at home, I enjoy volunteering and working with children in my free time. I am heavily involved in the youth groups held through the church in my town. I enjoy spending time outside with my family and going on hikes during the summer, especially when we have the opportunity to explore a new place together. I love country music and I prefer to spend time reading and learning instead of doing things on a device.
Advice for the Class of 2028: "Be scared, do it anyway!" Have faith in your capabilities enough to take the risk and challenge yourself, while also remaining humble in knowing that there is much to learn from those around you. Nothing grows in your comfort zone, and your ability to rise to the occasion may surprise you. Take advantage of every opportunity and remember that it certainly isn't one size fits all; keep your eyes on where YOU want to go and hold yourself accountable to get there.

Additional Activities: I work as an EMT during the semester and breaks.
Advice for the Class of 2028: College is fun, but also stressful and it goes by really fast. Make sure to take time to figure out the things that you like to do outside of school. Work hard, but remember to take time for yourself and enjoy the journey!

Additional Activities: I love to spend time outside in nature. I also love to cook. I am always up for a new adventure!
Advice for the Class of 2028: If you are unsure, do it anyway. Even if it is completely uncharted territory to you but some tiny voice is intriguing you, GO! My favorite memories and most impactful relationships have resulted from doing things I was hesitant or nervous to do!
Sandra '25
Hometown: Mount Kisco, N.Y.Major: Biology
Minor: Psychology
On Campus Involvement: Throughout my journey as a student at Marist, I have enjoyed being part of my community and learned so much about myself as well as others in doing so. I am an EMT and work at NDP EMS on the weekends, and often volunteer at the Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. I also participate in midnight runs, charity events, and more events to help my community through my hometown church. In my free time, I enjoy working out!
Advice for the Class of 2028: If I were to go back to being a first-year student, I would have wished for someone to tell me to not be afraid of this new chapter in life, and to take the initiative in the opportunities around me. It is important to put yourself out there and take the extra step for yourself. Something I've heard is, "what is worse than failure is regret". Making one decision could take you places you never even imagined to be in, and if it does not turn out that way, you still gain because you learned from it!

I also love to go for walks and runs outside on the Walkway Over the Hudson or take the short trip to the Poughkeepsie Galleria for a Target run!
Advice for the Class of 2028: I would say to be open-minded. College is a great chance to involve yourself in activities you haven't gotten the chance to explore yet, meet people who are completely different from you, and find out new things about yourself. Be willing to put yourself out there, it will pay off!

Orientation Leaders (OLs)
Adrien, ‘23
Hometown: Woodstock, NY
Majors: Economics, Philosophy
Minors: Cognitive Science, Data Science
Campus Involvement: On campus, I serve as a Resident Assistant in one of the freshmen residence areas. I am also enrolled in the Honors Program and was on the executive board for Marist College Student Programming Council. In addition, I have volunteered through Campus Ministry and been a general member of various on-campus clubs.

If it's the autumn, you can find me watching the New York Giants, my favorite sports team.
Advice for the Class of ‘25: Go to office hours. Meeting with your professors is crucial for understanding material and building strong relationships that will last beyond your college years. Don't feel obliged to stick to a friend group if you're not happy. You are free to move about and make new friends! Also, attend a variety of clubs; they help you discover your interests and passions, and if you end up not liking a club, that's okay! To end, I want to share a quote from Abraham Lincoln: "Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."

Advice for the Class of ‘25: As a first-year student, I wished someone would have told me that everything will be fine. When you first go to a brand new school for the first time, it can be kind of overwhelming, but as soon as you begin spending more time there, meeting new friends, and really getting involved on campus, you realize there is nothing to be afraid of. You will find your place here, and there is something for everyone. I couldn't believe when I began my own orientation as a freshman. The atmosphere was just so welcoming, and it put a smile to my face knowing that people are genuinely excited to have you here as a student. My time at Marist has been truly some of the best years of my entire school career. I have learned so much more, gained new interests, and met such a diverse group of people. Everything is just waiting for you, and you will truly see how amazing everything is.

Advice for the Class of ‘25: It is perfectly fine to be a little bit nervous, but I promise you will be able to find yourself at home. Advice for the Class of ‘25: Make sure to take time for yourself sometimes. Although college life can be incredibly hectic, self-care is always needed to keep a balanced college life. Hang out with a friend at the dining hall, take a walk along the river, etc. De-stress whenever needed and make sure to not let your new surroundings overwhelm you.

Additional Activities: I enjoy painting, eating out at different restaurants, going to the movies, going to the mall, and going to the beach.
Advice for the Class of ‘25: One piece of advice I would give to the Class of 2025 is "go with your gut!" We all have a gut feeling when making decisions in life. In college you learn so much about yourself as you go through different stages. Listen to your mind and your body, because a gut feeling is never wrong. If something does not feel right whether that be changing your major to making new friends go with your intuition. I wish I listened to my "gut" when I was a freshman. I could have made my life so much easier. Also, ask for help. In college, we want to feel that sense of independence, but we all need help sometimes. Do not be afraid to utilize the amazing resources we have here at Marist.

Advice for the Class of ‘25: Transitioning to college can be a big adjustment and at first you may feel overwhelmed. This feeling of uneasiness is normal and will eventually pass. It's okay not to have your life figured out as an incoming student, and it's okay if you still don't have your life figured out when you're an upperclass student and it seems like all of your friends already know what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Most importantly, don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone, be open to new experiences. Welcome to the Fox Den, Class of 2025!

The first day of freshman year I met some of my best friends by going up to their group to say hello, they invited me to the river, and we have been friends since! Marist will introduce you to your forever family and be ready to take that gift with open arms. Also, don’t be nervous to try new things: random classes, random sports teams, clubs, etc. you may find a new passion or love for something!

Advice for the Class of ‘25: The best advice I was told when starting at Marist was “You are here for a reason”. Entering college is a new and intimidating feeling. Especially for me, I felt out of place and scared of the hundreds of students who seemed like they had it all figured out. The simple phrase “I am here for a reason” helped remind me that Marist saw something special in me and deliberately chose me for what I had to offer. You are special and you have your own strengths that led you to Marist over thousands of applicants. Just stay confident and remember what makes you, you. Your skills, effort, struggles, family, and personality led you to Marist and remembering those things everyday will help you excel.

Advice for the Class of ‘25: Enjoy becoming yourself. Granted, there are many pressures that come with being a college student; however, this is also the time of your life to explore your passions. One of my advisors told me this during my freshman year and since then I have always taken the time to self reflect by trying new things, exploring new paths, meeting new people, etc. My advice for the class of 2025 is to learn about yourself as you continue to grow in this four-year journey.
