National Certification Examinations
As a Medical Laboratory Science student at Marist, you can expect an organized and well-developed plan that is designed to help you pass your National Certification and New York State licensing exam administered by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. Licensure as a Medical Technologist in other states is dependent on many factors including, but not limited to, educational requirements, examination requirements, and personal requirements. As a result, Marist College cannot determine whether completion of this program would be sufficient to meet all the licensure or limited permit requirements outside of New York State for the Medical Technology occupation. We advise you to contact the state licensing board or appropriate licensing entity to determine whether the program meets requirements for professional licensure in the state in which you reside or intend to pursue licensure.
Information regarding state regulatory boards can be found at the hyperlink below:
Although not a requirement for graduation, students are prepared for and eligible to take national certification examinations. Two exams are available through the:

The ASCP Board of Registry is an independent certification agency that sets standards which ensure the competency of medical laboratory professionals. The Board of Registry certifies those individuals who meet the academic and clinical prerequisites and who achieve acceptable performance levels on examinations. Marist Medical Laboratory Science graduates meet the eligibility requirements for the ASCP medical technologist (MT), examination. Examinations are offered online throughout the year in three-month examination periods. The MT examination application fee is $145. - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
