A Dean That's Witnessed The Success of Computer Science and Mathematics Students

Our students are extremely successful both while at Marist and after they graduate. Our students, while still undergraduates have interned at Facebook, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, IBM, Apple, Goldman Sachs, to name just a few. They have participated in NSF-funded research experiences at both Marist and other institutions including University of North Carolina, Texas A&M, and the University of California San Bernardino. Our graduates have gone on to jobs at IBM, Morgan Stanley, Apple, Microsoft, USAA, Goldman Sachs, or have gone to graduate schools at places like RPI, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, and Wesleyan. Some have even started their own successful businesses. And what’s also impressive about these students is their loyalty to Marist College. When these students become successful at these companies, they don’t forget where they started.

Earn College Credit While In High School With Marist Summer Pre-College

For over fifteen years, Marist has created a top-ranked summer pre-college program that gives students a sense of college life, provides a taste of a college major, and allows students to earn college credit while still in high school. At Marist's Summer Pre-College program, you'll engage in daily class sessions with leading faculty and explore exciting career opportunities in your field. High school sophomores and juniors will engage in hands-on learning experiences either in-person or virtually, while working with industry professionals and like-minded peers.

At Marist, I worked on projects for Data Mining, Data Management, and Decision Support Systems. I created an Artificial Neural Network based data model for the ethical dilemma of a self-driving car, predictive models for prices of items in New York City based on R, and a cue-triggered motivation based machine learning model.

As any computer science major here at Marist will tell you, courses here are hands-on and focused on learning what is important to become a competent coder in the real world. What is not often mentioned, however, is that professors are also always looking for students to get involved in research with them. This means that whatever your goal is in coming to Marist for computer science, there is something here for you.

When I give tours of campus, I especially love talking with prospective students who are interested in mathematics because most aren’t aware of the endless possibilities that studying math can open up for you. Before coming to Marist, I would never have been able to imagine half the things I have learned or accomplished.
