The purpose of Academic Assessment and Improvement at Marist College is to provide information and support in the area of learning outcomes assessment.
Mission
The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences provides programs that stimulate academic engagement and inform personal and professional values in a spirit that embraces human dignity, social justice and inspires service to the community. Programs foster respect for all as we engage our students in helping people improve their lives through varied and substantial experiential learning. We instruct students in the use of research and intervention methods that are contemporary, rigorous, and evidence-based. We strive to develop life-long learners who are critical thinkers, innovators and collaborators.
Social Work Objectives
- Students will demonstrate critical self-reflection as the foundation for competent generalist practice.
- Students will apply research evidence to advance practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations and community toward a more just society.
- Students will demonstrate entry-level mastery of the core competencies as they complete the multi-dimensional field education program.
Criminal Justice Objectives
- Content: Students will demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of criminal justice concepts related to law enforcement, courts, corrections, juveniles and criminology.
- Skills: Students will demonstrate effective research, writing, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.
- Ethics: Students will evaluate ethical arguments regarding criminal justice policy.
- Application: Students will demonstrate the ability to integrate classroom knowledge with practical application in a professional setting.
- Diversity: Students will recognize the impact of race, class, and gender in our criminal justice system.
