Ally Network Training
The goal of this program is to provide a welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender persons by establishing an identifiable network of individuals who can provide support, information and a safe place within our campus community. One session for faculty/staff and one session for students is typically held each semester.

LGBTQ+ Happy Hour
The LGBTQ+ Sub-committee of the Marist College Diversity Council invited members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as friends and allies to cocktails and appetizers at Schatzi's Pub. This informal gathering is a way for faculty, staff, Marist Allies, and all those who are supportive of our LGBTQ+ community to come to know one another in a relaxing setting. Appetizers were provided by the LGBTQ+ Sub-committee, and an excellent time was had by all.
Lavender (Hosted by Marist Fox Pride)
Marist Fox Pride hosted it's first 1st Lavender Ball on Friday, April 20th. This semi-formal is to celebrate love, identity, and life while recognizing allies and individuals who have contributed to bringing LGBTQ+ inclusivity on the Marist College campus.
Men's Basketball Pride Game
In February 2018, the LGBTQ+ Subcommittee to the Diversity Council, Fox Pride, and Marist Athlete Ally hosted the first LGBTQ+ Pride game at a Men's Basketball game. Fans had the opportunity to sign a pledge to make Athletics a more inclusive space.
Revolutionary (His)tories
Gender identity, historical fiction, and the life of Revolutionary War Soldier Deborah Samson, a lecture on gender, writing, and the American Revolution by Alex Myers.
Robyn Ochs
In honor of National Coming Out Day in October 2017, Robyn Ochs spoke to two groups throughout the day. Her presentations were titled, The Changing Landscape of Identity and Embracing an All-And Identity in an Either-Or World. The event was sponsored by the LGBTQ+ Sub-Committee of the Diversity Council, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, and the Division of Student Affairs.
Ally Happy Hour
Each semester, the LGBTQ+ Sub-committee of the Marist College Diversity Council hosts an Ally Happy Hour! This informal gathering provides a way for faculty, staff, Marist Allies, and all those who are supportive of our LGBTQ+ community to come to know one another in a relaxing setting.
Out in the Marist World
In the Spring of 2017, a panel of Marist faculty, staff, and students shared their personal experiences of being LGBTQ+ on the Marist campus.
The Words They Call Me
On April 30, 2015, Student Government hosted "The Words They Call Me," a special event designed by students to explore diversity issues on campus. The event included performances and a panel discussion featuring students, alumni, administrators, and faculty.
Diversity Panel Discussion: Why Is Diversity So Important?
On Tuesday, March 31 the Marist College Diversity Council presented a panel discussion called "Why Is Diversity So Important?"
The facilitator/moderator for the panel discussion was Dr. Edward Pittman, Associate Dean of the College, Vassar College.
The panelists included:
- Melinda Martinez, Director, Liberty Partnership Program
- Tia Gaynor, Assistant Professor of Public Administration
- Patricia Ferrer-Medina, Assistant Professor of Spanish
- Collin McCann - Associate Director for First Year Programs and Leadership Development
- Gayatree Siddhanta Sarma - Visiting Professional Lecturer, School of Management
This event was co-sponsored by the Marist College Diversity Council, Enterprise, and the Center for Multicultural Affairs.
OUT in the Real World

On Wednesday, May 7, the LGBTQ+ subcommittee of the Diversity Council, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, and the School of Liberal Arts welcomed activist, journalist, and publicist Jay Blotcher to Marist College. Mr. Blotcher spoke about New York Gay activism of the 80's, including ACT UP, in reaction to the medical community's treatment of the AIDS pandemic.
