The Marist Community
LGBTQ+ Community Events
Events serving queer and trans students, faculty, staff, and alumni are an integral part of making Marist a welcoming space for everyone. Many of these events are hosted by various schools, clubs, and departments across campus throughout the year. These movie screenings, keynote speakers, workshops, and discussions change from semester to semester and can be found on the main Marist College Events calendar as they are scheduled. Additionally, meetings and events hosted by the student club, Fox Pride, can be found on their Instagram.
These are a few key events that are hosted regularly by the Queer and Trans Committee and/or Fox Pride.
Effective Allyship Workshop
This 90-minute interactive workshop introduces terminology, current issues, and campus resources as they relate to the LGTBQ+ community, as well as providing an opportunity to talk through various scenarios that may emerge here at Marist and how you can be an effective ally. These sessions are typically held 2-3 times per semester for faculty, staff, and students.
Out in the Real World
This panel is held in alternating years with Out in the Marist World (see below). This panel invites queer and trans alumni/staff with different experiences/backgrounds to talk about their experiences around researching companies, applying for jobs, interviewing, and the challenges and best practices around those.
Out in the Marist World
This panel is held in alternating years with Out in the Real World (see above). This panel invites, students, faculty, and staff to share their thoughts and experiences on being out in the Marist community, both positive and negative. The panel will address where Marist has succeeded and where Marist can improve, and share ways your fellow co-workers, students, and other members of the community can be supportive allies.
Ally Happy Hour
Hosted by the Queer and Trans committee each Spring, this informal gathering is a way for faculty, staff, alumni, students, and all those who are supportive of our queer and trans community to come to know one another in a relaxing setting. Appetizers are provided.
Poughkeepsie Pride Parade
The annual Poughkeepsie Pride Parade & Festival is always held on the second Saturday in June. Members of the Marist community are invited to march as the parade moves from historic Main Street down Waryas Park.
Lavender
Marist Fox Pride hosts an annual Lavender Ball in late Spring. This semi-formal is to celebrate love, identity, and life while recognizing allies and individuals who have contributed to bringing LGBTQ+ inclusivity to the Marist College campus.
Pride Games
Coordinated by Athletics, Marist athletic teams host a pride game where athletes, fans, and Frankie wear Ally shirts and pledge to support the LGBTQ+ community.
