Looking for a hands-on, career-oriented degree, but don't want to get boxed into a single career track? You should consider the broad-based skill set you'll acquire with a Marist degree in Business Administration. You'll be both well-grounded and well-rounded, ready to start your career as a socially responsible manager and leader. You'll start with core business courses in marketing, human resource management, finance, operations management, organizational behavior, and law. Then you'll choose an area of emphasis--international business, finance, marketing, or human resource management. Or, you can work with your advisor to construct a customized emphasis.
Studying business at Marist isn't just done in the classroom.
You'll enjoy active student organizations, competitions, internships, and study abroad at our Florence, Italy branch campus or another location. You'll take advantage of special programs at the Raymond A. Rich Institute for Leadership Development and the Greystone Student Investment Fund. Values-driven management is a particular interest for Marist faculty and students. Ethics Week is an important part of every semester, with students and professionals from business actively discussing timely and relevant ethical issues for business management.
The Business Administration program is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, the premier accrediting organization for business programs worldwide.Students will be held to the requirements of the catalog of the year in which they declare their major. The mission of the Marist Business Administration program is to provide a high-quality, professional education in a supportive, interactive, and personalized environment. The program is designed to provide our business graduates with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become effective, socially responsible leaders in today's competitive and rapidly changing global business environment.
The goals of the School of Management's undergraduate degree program in Business Administration are:
- To provide a dynamic undergraduate business curriculum, based on a broad liberal arts education that includes an analytical business foundation, exposure to the breadth of the business discipline, and the depth of a primary area of emphasis.
- To enhance excellence in business education by requiring students to use information and communications technology.
- To provide coverage of ethical and global issues; exposure to the political, social, technological, legal, natural, and cultural environments of business; and coverage of diversity issues in business.
- To provide a learning environment that incorporates basic written and oral communications skills in diverse areas of business.
- To support quality teaching through appropriate faculty intellectual activities.
- To instill in students an understanding of modern business theory and practice so that they are prepared for an entry-level job or for graduate school.
- To instill in students the ability to think critically, work in a team, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Student Activities in Business Administration at Marist College
The Business Club
The Business Club is a relatively new and growing organization. It is comprised primarily of students with Business, Accounting, and Economics majors and minors. The Club provides a social gathering for School of Management students while bringing informative and practical services to its members.
The mission of the Business Club is to provide students with practical, informative, and entertaining subject matter. Most importantly, it is a link between the administration, faculty, and students at Marist. Its purpose is to provide a forum for students to discuss their related interest in the business world, as well as broaden their knowledge of business opportunities and experiences outside of the classroom.
The Business Club meets once every two weeks. During the meetings, the members discuss various issues pertaining to finance, marketing, human resources, international business, etc. Additionally, they take periodic field trips to select companies in New York City, sponsor fund raising and community service projects, invite professionals from the "real world" to give lectures on their own experiences, and much more.

Alpha Kappa Psi (AKY)
Alpha Kappa Psi is a national professional business fraternity with beliefs focusing on brotherhood, leadership, unity, and education. Marist is home to the Nu Upsilon chapter of the fraternity. Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed fraternity and is open to students with majors in business, computer science, mathematics, public relations, and advertising. New members must pledge for a seven-week educational period and must pass a national exam to be initiated into the fraternity.
The main focus of Alpha Kappa Psi is to provide leadership development, personal and professional training, and experience. In order to meet this goal, the fraternity engages in activities and events such as the Business Career Panel at Marist and the fall Symposium at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 210,000 individual members in more than 100 countries and 550 affiliated chapters, the Society's mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive resources available.
The benefits of student membership include receipt of all published periodicals, including HR Magazine, SHRM Legal Report, and Staffing Management, access to an HR Jobs data base and HR Career planning tools, the the ability to attend and participate in meetings held by the Mid-Hudson Professional Chapter, as well as regional and national conferences at discounted rates. Members are also eligible to participate in regional student competitions and may apply for SHRM scholarships and awards.
