Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for Adult Undergraduate and Returning Students

Q. I want to finish my degree but how do I get started?

A. Fill out the Marist Adult Application for Admissions and submit to the Office of Adult Undergraduate Admission along with your sealed official college transcripts and $50.00 (non-refundable) application fee. Upon acceptance, you will be mailed a transcript credit evaluation at which point you will make an appointment to register with an academic advisor. 

Q. What if I don't have transcripts?

A. Here is an Official Transcript Request Form.  Fill it out and send it to all previous college(s) attended and request they send to The Office of Adult Admission, Marist, 3399 North Road, Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601. 

Q. How do I submit my transcripts?

A. Please request all official college transcripts from previous college(s) attended and request they be sent to The Office of Adult Admission, Marist, 3399 North Road, Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601 or electronically at adulted@marist.edu.

Q. Is there campus housing for adult students?

A. No, on-campus housing is not available for students over the age of 22. However, off-campus housing listings are available in our Residence Life Office.

Q. Is there financial assistance for adult students?

A. Yes. Financial Aid is available to a matriculated student in a degree program or certificate program. Students must be enrolled in at least six credits and require financial assistance to meet the total expense of Marist. Students should apply for this assistance while applying for admission.

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Marist school code is 002765. If you do not have FAFSA ID, apply for one, here. You will need an ID to electronically sign your FAFSA.

From their website, you can download the latest version of Marist's Adult Affordability Guide for students which provides useful information about financial aid, grants, scholarships, loan programs, and corporate partnerships. 

Q. Are there scholarships available for adult students?

Yes.  Academic Scholarships are awarded upon acceptance.

Adult Learner Grant - Awarded upon acceptance to Marist to adult students enrolling full or part-time (at least 9 credits) at the Poughkeepsie campus.  Awards range from $750 - $1500 per semester.

The Marist Scholarship for Academic Excellence - Awarded upon acceptance to Marist to adult transfer students enrolling full-time (12 credits or more).  Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Awards may be upwards of $2500 per semester.

Endowed Scholarships - Through the generosity of trustees, alumni, parents, and friends of Marist, a number of endowed scholarships have been established at Marist. The endowed scholarship awards range from $500 to $3,000.  More information on endowed scholarships can be found through Student Financial Services.
