Apparel Construction for Fashion Design
In this course, students will learn draping and pattern drafting techniques as an introduction to apparel development working directly on a dress form to explore their design ideas. Apparel construction and sewing techniques will be explored. Students will be introduced to professional construction methods & terminology used in the fashion industry, as well as learning fabric manipulation.
Learning Outcomes:
The overall learning goal of this course is to explore the various aspects of fashion design portfolio development. In this course students will:
- Gain hand sewing skills and learn how to operate an industrial sewing machine.
- Create unique fabric using various fabric manipulation techniques.
- Use draping and pattern drafting techniques as a source of design inspiration.
- Construct a finished garment prototype constructed in muslin and contrast fabric.
Earn College Credits Over the Summer
Marist Summer Pre-College is geared toward sophomores and juniors in high school. Upon successful completion of the Fashion Design – Apparel Construction SPC Program, each student will earn three (3) transferable college credits for the Marist course, FASH 103N.

Cost does not include travel expenses. Students may wish to bring funds for incidentals, shopping at the Marist Bookstore or the local mall, souvenirs, and any personal items they wish to purchase. Students should bring a laptop for their coursework.
